India and Australia Seek Shipbuilding Collaboration

India's High Commissioner in Australia recently engaged in strategic discussions with a delegation of top Indian shipbuilders, including representatives from Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers, Mazgon Dock Limited, Goa Shipyard Limited, and Hindustan Shipyard Limited. The meeting focused on potential collaboration between the Indian and Australian shipbuilding industries.

The discussions aimed to explore opportunities for both countries to leverage their strengths in the maritime sector. By combining expertise and resources, India and Australia could bolster their shipbuilding capabilities and increase competitiveness within the global market.

This meeting signifies a growing interest in collaboration between the two nations. Specific areas of collaboration identified during the talks are expected to be announced in the near future.

This strategic partnership between India and Australia has the potential to significantly impact the global shipbuilding landscape. The collaboration may lead to advancements in technology, innovation, and increased economic opportunities for both nations.

With Australia do not waste your time. They are in the West’s pocket. They do whatever they tell you to do.

Pretty much the only warships where any collaboration is possible in the medium-term is Australia's planned Optionally-manned Surface Combatants. The Australians are considering basing it on American USV research, but some collaboration may be possible there.

India should also focus on increasing its civilian shipbuilding capacity, with JVs with Japanese and South Korean majors...The reason China has has been able to rapidly expand PLA navy, is its civilian shipbuilding which accounts for 50% of global tonnage..,Let us learn from Japan and South Korea as we enhance our shipbuilding.

Australia can outsource some of their ships to be built at L&T.
They don't have too many of those. All six Type 26 frigates are being built in Australia, and the successors to the Anzac-class is planned to see 3 ships built at the foreign OEM yard, with the remaining 8 to be built in Australia. That only leaves the 6 Optionally-manned Surface Combatants.

Local shipbuilding is a touchy topic for Australia, and they generally tend to not compromise on that.

Yes, almost every single Country in the world is having high inflation and accute joblessness after COVID and wars all over the World, if any Country moves the job outside the political parties have to face a huge backlash at home.

It would be good if Australia can outsource any work, parts or technology so we can build or repair any of already. Pp their ships or need help in making their naval ships at a cheaper price. Our ship builders have just started to use modular construction technique and are upgrading a lot of yards to make them efficient, modern and the best infrastructure to manufacture ships. We need to make more civil ships and not just military ships which is what its used to him mostly and we need to encourage exporting ships.

At the same time India will need to manufacture the critical technology and parts like a ship engine, fighter jets and more it

Not happening. Local shipbuilding is a very touchy topic in Australia, and they don't outsource ship construction unless they need ships urgently. That is the case with the planned GP frigate class that will succeed the Anzac-class, where the first three ships are planned to be built in foreign yards (the RAN wants them by 2030-31), and the remaining eight in Australian yards, entering service by 2040 or so. Repairs are another thing entirely, but the RAN does possess or deploy in numbers that often such that they would absolutely need to send ships for repairs in foreign yards.
