Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a leading Indian defence electronics company, is developing a major Aerospace Park in the industrial township of Palasamudram.
The first phase of the project, spread over 65 acres and costing Rs 385 crore, is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The second and final phase will commence in 2025 and is slated for completion in early 2026.
The Aerospace Park, spanning a total of 1,000 acres, aims to become a hub for defence and aerospace manufacturing and research. Civil works for the first phase, including the construction of a compound wall, internal roads, and a solar power plant, have been completed.
The park will house state-of-the-art facilities such as assembly hangers, radar and weapon integration systems, RF radiation sources for target simulation, clean rooms for electronic assembly, environmental test chambers, and more.
This project is expected to significantly boost the local economy, providing direct employment to 2,500 people and indirect employment to 6,250 personnel. Sunar Shuvana Soni, APIIC zonal manager, stated that the BEL project will be a "feather in the cap" for the industrial township.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a major construction company, has been engaged as a consultant for the project and has completed the public hearing and civil works for the first phase. Kerala-based KITCO Ltd has also been awarded the consultancy for the defence system integration complex (DSIC), which is being set up in two phases within the park.
