Navi Mumbai-based drone manufacturer, ideaForge Technology, has announced a strategic investment in GalaxEye Space, an IIT Madras-incubated spacetech startup.

The acquisition of a non-controlling stake for Rs 8.28 crore (approximately $1 million) signifies ideaForge's commitment to advancing its drone capabilities through GalaxEye's cutting-edge satellite imaging technology.

GalaxEye's Innovative Satellite Imaging

Founded in 2020 by IIT Madras alumni and Professor S. R. Chakravarthy, GalaxEye specializes in developing multi-sensor imaging satellites. These indigenously built satellites enable advanced geospatial analysis for various sectors, including government, defense, and industries.

The Bengaluru-based startup boasts a team of over 50 professionals, including alumni from prestigious institutions like ISRO and IITs.

The investment comes on the heels of GalaxEye's partnership with Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) to develop a multi-sensor fusion processing system for miniature satellites serving the Indian Air Force (IAF). This collaboration highlights the startup's growing prominence in the aerospace and defense sectors.

Enhancing Drone Capabilities

IdeaForge intends to leverage GalaxEye's expertise in sensing solutions to develop advanced drone-based sensors. The primary focus will be on creating fog and foliage penetration sensors, which are expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of ideaForge's unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in challenging environments.

This development aligns with a previous collaboration between the two companies in September 2023, where they jointly developed a UAV with Foliage Penetration Radar for Indian security forces.

Strategic Investment and Future Outlook

This strategic investment not only strengthens ideaForge's position in the UAV market but also showcases the growing synergy between the drone and satellite technology sectors.

As drone applications expand across various industries, the demand for advanced sensors and imaging capabilities is expected to rise. The collaboration between ideaForge and GalaxEye is poised to drive innovation in this space, potentially leading to groundbreaking solutions for defense, agriculture, infrastructure monitoring, and disaster management.
