Saab Establishes New Carl-Gustaf Manufacturing Hub in India

JHAJJAR, INDIA – March 4, 2024 – Swedish defence major Saab yesterday celebrated a historic moment with the official inauguration of its new Carl-Gustaf® weapon system manufacturing facility in Jhajjar, Haryana, India.

The groundbreaking ceremony drew dignitaries including Håkan Jevrell, Sweden's State Secretary for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, and Jan Thesleff, Sweden's Ambassador to India.

This event marks another chapter in Saab's long-standing partnership with India, a collaboration dating back to 1976. Saab's new, state-of-the-art facility is the first dedicated solely to Carl-Gustaf production outside of Sweden and was built under the 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy.

The facility will incorporate cutting-edge technologies in its manufacturing process, such as advanced carbon fiber winding techniques and the latest in sighting technology.

The primary focus will be to produce the Carl-Gustaf M4 system tailored for the needs of the Indian armed forces.

Future plans include the ability to produce components for other global customers, with exports initially to Sweden and later broadening to other markets in accordance with India's export regulations and relevant end-user agreements.

SAAB could make Gripen-E’s in India for India and the World for half the cost, it will be good for both.

Too late for that now,it may been a viable deal in 2016-17 during RM Parrikar's tenure due to search for an explicit single engine jet,and fact that SAAB could not only provide the Gripens, but also help with the design and production of the Tejas MK-2 on the side.

They offered to co-develop the Tejas Mk 2 with HAL if they won MMRCA. But, you know...

Carl-Gustaf M4 system is a great and a deadly systm.
It will strike terror in terrorists, terroristan army and of course salami slicing pla.
Good for India and IA.

Great news! Much required improvement over the junk that OFB produces...
BTW...wait and watch....once the ammunition unit of Adani starts to produce the T-90 rounds and 155mm rounds, we will see a marked reduction or complete stop in barrel burst/explosion instances every year saving the precious lives of our soldiers

this is great news for exports. Carl gustaff is used by many countries. So we can build it here and export to other countries as well.

But Gripen-E was not ready at that time, Brazil made a very good deal.

Awww…go and ask for a refund from your math teacher because 9100 million, the figure given by Brazilian government itself (devoid of Meteor missile deal), divided by 36 is not 85 million.

Awww…it’s so cute (not really) when you think you know more than the one who themselves shelled 9.1 billion usd under the illusion that they will get any export orders.

I know French citizen's are patriotic to their products whether they are good are bad, whether they work or not work.

Some Saab divisions are Chinese owned now, so alert is needed.
only parts of Volvo and Polestar were working with Chinese Major Geely Automobiles, but now Swedes cancelled their contract with Geely moved all divisions to work under Volvo and made polestar a separate company owned by Swedes.
