Could India's Brahmos Killer Missile Sink a Chinese Aircraft Carrier?

Think those giant aircraft carriers, the ones that look like floating cities, are invincible? Well, India's got a weapon that might just change the game. It's called the BrahMos, and it's a supersonic cruise missile – picture a rocket so fast, it practically screams across the ocean. Military simulations are showing that it wouldn't even take many of these bad boys to cause some major damage, even sinking a massive Chinese aircraft carrier.

Why is this missile so scary? Speed. The BrahMos clocks in at a whopping three times the speed of sound, and it zips along just above the waves, making it a sneaky little devil that's tough to shoot down. To make things worse (if you're on a carrier), it packs a serious punch. You don't want to get hit by one of these.

Of course, in the real world, things aren't as simple as a computer simulation. Carriers have defenses, lots of them. Missiles meant to blast incoming threats out of the sky, radar watching everywhere… there's a reason these floating fortresses are so hard to take down. Whether the BrahMos could break through all that is a question no one really wants to find the answer to the hard way.

One thing is for sure, though: missiles like the BrahMos are changing the way we think about naval power. It's not just about who has the biggest ship anymore; it's about who has the smartest, fastest, and most powerful weapons. And in that race, India's definitely looking dangerous.

3 BrahMos hits, unless they happen to hit in exactly the right places and under the right circumstances, won't sink a carrier. That said, 3 hits would be sufficient to mission-kill said carriers, if not cripple it.

However, any carrier would have its own CBG escorting it. Factoring that in along with potential interception rates, we could need anything between 15-ish all the way to around 60 missiles (assuming an effective hit rate of between 5% and 20%), though a practical number there sounds in the range of 40-50 missiles.
CBG cant do jack$hit. It travels at 1km/s. They will have very little reaction time. In realworld scenario, we will be overwhelming the CBG with combination of drones and glide bombs. Once they are worn out, we will send the Brahmos. For China, Carrier is too prestigious to lose. They wouldnt dare to field it.

If the missile hits the ship below waterline, one missile is more than enough to sink the ship. Ship will sink within minutes.
You dont have to sink the AC; One side hit at or below the waterline will make the AC tilt sideways .. thats enough.. its useless & non operative. You dont need to sink it.

If India was going to launch a attack then they will need to do it very quickly before they can react to the missile threat. India can place a saturation attack of 5-10 missiles to make sure that at least a few missiles will hit the carrier even if they try intercepting our missiles and succeed with a few. Our modern missiles will have ECCM, low flying trajectory and a larger and more powerful warhead to increase the damage. The newer Brahmos missiles will penetrate the outer armour and then blow up from inside which causes the most damage rather than just hitting the outer armour so India does have a superior missile that can cause catastrophic damage and leave it with irreparable amount of damage or sink the carrier.

In reality PLAN will start intercepting them much before they come within their SAM threshold using their PL-15s. BrahMos doesn't have any RAM coating, neither does it maneuver in the mid-phase, nor does it employ EW like a fighter aircraft.

They also travel very fast, making them appear as a bigger target to a radar coming from the opposite direction. So hitting them with BVR won't be too hard. This scenario was aptly showcased in a video of Grim Reapers.

I suggest the following improvements in BrahMos :
  1. Greater Speed ~Mach 4.8
  2. RAM Coating
  3. Stand-in GaN Jammer
  4. Chaff & Flare Dispensing
  5. GaN AESA Seeker
It will make brahmos 2× times expensive and for that limited range you won't do all these enhancements..

A salvo of brahmos is a very potent attack

We dont need 3, we just need 1 - One Brahmos on the carrier would blow a big hole - it will render the carrier inoperational and take months to repair. They will be lucky if they can tow that multi billion dollar embarrassment back to their homebase. I say use only one - the hole will create such an embarrassment for Xi, that his underlings will topple him and throw the country into civil war.

(side note- Fujian is a delicate toy. Just a slight explosion -like Shahed 136 style- on the EMALS rail would render it inoperational. )
Same goes for all carriers. Carriers are white elephants (except US which has formidable escorts, air defences...) in this missile age.

Amen, what else you need? Do not forget that chinese have a DEW programme which is fairly advanced. Anything ectronic will go kaput if those are available on ships. Billion dollar ACs are just white elephants.

Oh so we need 3 brahmos to destroy a chingchong CCP ship wadafaq 🙀

We should quickly work on Brahmos-2, with a range of 1000+KMs with a speed of Mach 8+, but a smaller size so they can be launched either from fighters and/or like rapid dragon from C-130s.C-295s and C-17s...Let us buy the Zircon tech to start with and then develop our own.
I thought make in India is self sufficient why buying tsirkon technology from Russia???

Yes, but we have an asymmetrical advantage. We dont really need carrier in a real battle. Its all just posturing. Even if we lose a carrier, it doesnt matter. Its not like we are going to threaten Botswana into compliance with a carrier. Our jets have combat radius of ~1500Km, plus mid air refuelling, we can pretty much project power in all our interest areas. Worst thing that could happen to India if we lose a carrier is the ruling party losing election and the other party taking over.
But for China its an entirely different matter. CCP justifies its oppression by selling the super power dream to the average Lee. Carrier is a big part of the show. Their sales pitch is "see, we have carriers, we are super power just like the US". They have an unhealthy obsession over carriers. If we hurt the carrier, it dents their image. People will start questioning the leadership, it will lead to internal turmoil and civil war. Thats the advantage we have. Somebody has done a really good job in playing this (ie the article above) psyop on China.

Seems impossible, Chinese group will have at least 2x 052C/D each with 64x HHQ-9 (improved S-300), 1x 055 with 112 UVLS (considering 70% is SAM) 78x HHQ-9 + 24x HHQ-10 (RAM equivalent) point defense but better response time to VLS SAM, chinese carrier too carry 24x HHQ-10

Considering 1-2 Type 052, 054 with obsolete HQ-16 assigned for ASuW or ASW only

Chinese carrier based Z-20 AEW with modern 200nm air, surface search radar flying 50nm ahead of group and commanding pair of J-16s (most modern flankers) with more on standby

Advantage of anti ship missile is its difficult for ships radars to detect them because from beyond horizon the radars cant detect and the missile appears suddenly from horizon.
