A significant achievement in Indian innovation has emerged as an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee-based startup secures a top position in a prestigious defense technology contest.

Linearized Amplifier Technologies and Services (Linear-AmpTech), incubated at IIT Roorkee's iHub DivyaSampark, has won the 'Dare to Dream 4.0' contest held by the Defence Research and DevelopmentOrganisation (DRDO). The winning innovation is a transformative system for the detection and location estimation of gunshots.

Enhancing Defense and Public Safety​

Linear-AmpTech's cutting-edge technology has the potential to redefine situational awareness, offering benefits for both military operations and public safety.

Designed for rapid and accurate gunshot detection, it can play a key role in protecting defense personnel and enabling proactive crime prevention in cities.

IIT Roorkee notes that the system's "advanced capabilities in rapid gunshot detection and precise localisation promise to empower defence personnel, enhance troop safety, and contribute to proactive crime prevention in smart cities".

Journey of Innovation and Collaboration​

The technology's development began at IIT Roorkee's Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering as undergraduate students Parthsarthi Mishra and Akash Jha, under the guidance of Professor Karun Rawat, experimented with gunshot acoustic signatures.

Mentorship from IIT Roorkee alumnus Vivek Sharma propelled the concept's transformation into an advanced prototype with the collaboration of fellow undergraduate students Amit Kumar, Harsh Kumar, and Aniket Vishwakarma.

Live Demonstration and Recognition​

Linear-AmpTech and IIT Roorkee presented their gunshot detection technology to DRDO officials, conducting a live demonstration at the IIT Roorkee campus.

The system's capabilities were showcased, culminating in Linear-AmpTech's first-place win in the contest's 'Open Category: Exploring the Unthinkable and Unimaginable', a testament to their commitment to innovation.
