After Successful BrahMos Integration, Su-30MKI All-Set for Further Indigenisation with Indian Avionics Through 2030


The Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter aircraft has been modified over 100 times by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the integration of India's flagship supersonic missile, BrahMos, earlier, is the hallmark of the successful additions, customisations and efforts towards indigenization of the formidable aircraft platform, as per HAL's chief executive officer (CEO), Saket Chaturvedi on Monday while speaking at a book launch event at the National Academy of Defence Production (NADP) — a unit of Munitions India Ltd, as reported by the Times of India.

He further commended, praised and attributed all of it to transfer-of-technology (TOT) and source codes sharing by Russia and the Sukhoi Design Bureau, which, in turn, made it all possible.

Chaturvedi further elaborated that there are plans to completely indigenise the avionics systems of India's Su-30 fleet going forward. It is expected to be completed within the next 4 to 5 years, which will take the level of indigenization of the Su-30s to nearly 75% of the fighter plane would be indigenised.

He also added that a MiG-21 phasing-out ceremony will be conducted at a grand, upcoming event to be held on September 26 2025 and the in-service fleet of IAF's MiG-29s would continue to be operational with the IAF and aboard the Navy's aircraft carriers, going forward...
