BDL Aims to Build Next-Gen 'Torbuster' Torpedo Decoys for Indian Navy: BDL Chief

In a major move to fortify the Indian Navy's defenses, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has teamed up with Israeli defense firm Rafael to offer the advanced Torbuster SP hard-kill decoy system.

This collaboration, as announced by BDL's chief, will combine Rafael's cutting-edge technology with BDL's local manufacturing prowess.

Torbuster SP: A Game-Changer in Ship Defence

The Torbuster SP is a revolutionary system designed to strategically mount on naval vessels. It actively deceives and neutralizes incoming torpedoes, providing crucial seconds for ships to maneuver and escape danger. This technology is a significant leap forward in protecting naval assets from underwater threats.

Comprehensive Defense Against Torpedoes

Torbuster SP boasts a wide range of defensive capabilities, effectively countering passive, active, and wake-homing torpedoes. For passive torpedoes, it mimics the ship's acoustic signature, luring the threat away.

For active torpedoes, it analyzes their transmissions in real-time to deliver a tailored response. This system not only distracts but also neutralizes incoming torpedoes, preventing potential re-attacks.

Local Manufacturing for Self-Reliance

If the Indian Navy decides to acquire the Torbuster SP, BDL plans to manufacture it within India. This aligns with India's push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing and fosters a strategic partnership with a global leader like Rafael.

Additional Information

According to open-source intelligence reports, this collaboration aims to equip Indian Navy ships with advanced torpedo countermeasures. The Torbuster SP system, designed for strategic mounting on naval vessels, actively deceives and neutralizes incoming torpedoes.

This strategic partnership leverages Rafael's expertise with BDL's domestic production capabilities. The Torbuster SP is a game-changer in the realm of ship defence.

What This Means for India

This development signifies a significant step forward for the Indian Navy in safeguarding its ships and submarines.

The local production of such advanced defense technology not only strengthens India's defense capabilities but also contributes to the growth of its domestic defense industry.

good move , there is nothing on the market like torbuster.. we have to be prepared for china`s transfer of 8 subs to pak wiht AIP.

So another TOT (begging) from rafael
This is what happens when there's only one organisation in your country that does all the cutting-edge defence research, and that very organisation is tied with the shackles of government funding which curbs all their imagination.
The situation worsens when you see 90% of the Startups are taking the easy way out with the frugal engineering of making cheap quadcopters.

The headline should read.....BDL agrees to tight nuts and bolts of a torpedo supplied in kits by Rafael, charge 3x the labor cost, act all cool and brandish their screwdrivers, and give attention grabbing media statements to remain relevant ........BDL exists because no pvt sector is the lead integrator of sensitive missiles....these morons cant even manufacture MILAN and old generation ATGMs without sourcing components from abroad.

India already has its own torpedo counter measure in place which can attract the torpedo away from our ship. This Torbuster isn't providing anything new that our own Maareech doesn't which lures the torpedo away and with the ships combat suite the Maareech torpedo counter measure fires automatically the moment it detects an incoming torpedo which gives us a chance to evade the torpedo.

Bingo! Exactly. We need to stop funding DRDO, and divert all those funds to various private companies and start ups. Lets dissolve DRDO completely and strip it down to it's last atom.
