BSF Adopts Direct Handover of Infiltrators to BGB without Legal Proceedings to Manage Rising Influx

In response to the significant political unrest and subsequent influx of infiltrators from Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) has adopted a new approach to managing the situation. This new strategy involves directly handing over apprehended infiltrators to the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB), bypassing the previous protocol of handing them over to the Indian police for legal processing.

This change in approach is evident in recent incidents, such as the apprehension of two Bangladeshi nationals in Jalpaiguri district on September 2nd. The individuals were identified as Khusho Sen (22) and Nirmal Sen (17), both residents of Thakurgaon in Bangladesh. They were promptly handed over to the BGB.

Similarly, on August 28th, BSF troops apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals and handed them over to the BGB the next day. Additionally, on the night of August 25th, BSF personnel successfully thwarted multiple infiltration attempts at three different locations along the Indo-Bangladesh border, forcing the infiltrators to retreat back to the Bangladeshi side.

This strategic shift aims to alleviate the burden on Indian authorities, who previously had to bear the responsibility for these individuals, often leading to prolonged legal battles and the provision of food and shelter in correctional homes.

A BSF official, speaking anonymously, explained the rationale behind this change: "Why should we bear the responsibility for these infiltrators? The previous system only prolonged their stay in India, often leading to extended periods in correctional homes as legal proceedings dragged on."

This new approach reflects the BSF's proactive response to the challenges posed by the ongoing political situation in Bangladesh and its impact on border security. By streamlining the handling of infiltrators, the BSF aims to maintain effective border control while minimizing the burden on Indian authorities.
