India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is set to receive orders for limited-scale production of its indigenously developed Nirbhay cruise missile, marking a significant milestone in the country's missile program.

The Manik engine, a locally developed turbofan engine, has been successfully tested, paving the way for a more independent and potentially cost-effective missile system.

The Land Attack variant, capable of striking targets deep within enemy territory, is expected to enhance long-range strike capabilities. The limited-scale production aims to meet armed forces' demands and deliver optimal performance.

Why only limited production, Great confidence, hope this missile with Manik engine flys consistently and accurately. 🙏🙏🙏

Program is dragging for several years and due to initial few failures the confidence is low. This program need full attention and support from all Institutes of India. Limited series production followed by several user trials and pave way for full certification and production units. This is India's Tomahawk and huge possible success in future just like Bhahmos. We must start thinking about separate corp (similar) to brahmos to mass produce all variants. It has limited export possibilities due to MICTR and range need to control to 300KM for export

Not very confident in DRDO deliver anything. They are very good in press releases. Not good and completing anything.

India really needs in large numbers a long range cruise missile capable of being launched from land, sea, air and sub-sea...Range should be in the 1500-2500KMs range backed up with satellite (VLEO/LEO) targeting constellation...This is India's tomahawk and we need to produce them in large quantities and low cost...Jai Hind...Jai Bharat...

Could the article have waited till the orders r inked? Our procurement process has the record of having never ending future tense.
Anyway, Nirbhay along with Pralay & Prahar will give formidable fire power to our defence forces 👍👍👍

Limited production for a missile that failed more than half the tests conducted till date? What in the world is going on here?

Indias experience in developing cruise missile is almost a failure. Indigenous engines are always failed. So we should collaborate with foreign countries for these crucial technologies. Otherwise it will be totally disastrous.

The limited production is done for most items to make sure that the final product matches the experimental product - which is tested under the supervision of scientists. Once the user is satisfied of the quality and functionality, larger orders are placed. This is a standard proactice all over the world.

There's nothing wrong with the Manik engine and testing something brand new takes time. We didn't become a space power or nuclear power by giving up and its when you give up on indigenously developing weapons and technology which means your a failure. Collaborating with foreign countries only mean on average giving about 50% of the technology transfer and local production.

It's good that finally progress is being made and we will get a low cost subsonic cruise missile. The most crucial part of the missile has been the indigenous Manik engine and now that it's proven successful we can use it for other purposes as well. The main crucial part is that we first develop an air launched cruise missile which we can launch from wherever we want to and hit deep targets behind enemy lines.

There were no initial failures in the program, the article that TOI posted without proper knowledge which said that the test was a failure , was fake & incorrect...

DRDO has texted so many missiles in last 2 years without any press- release due to the fuss created by these New channels.

I pray for its complete success in all tests and passing on to production at the earliest.
Many more tests are needed to figure out its performance in many kinds of scenarios.
India badly needs the Nirbhay cruise missile.
Good luck.

No initial failures? What rock have you been living under? 4 out of the 6 developmental trials failed. That's a failure rate of over 50% and someone thinks this missile is ready for limited production. It would appear y'all buying stuff from the same dealer.

I checked several reports(Including from trustworthy Jane's) and there was indeed partial failures or failures whichever way you want to look. The program running several years due to that and only last development trial is successful. To gain the confidence it need few quick development test and user trails in time boxed manner. It is only possible when MOD or PMO act as nodal agency and bring DRDO, Army, Manufacturer on the table and act as Program co-ordinator else it will delay for several years in typical non functional sarkari way

To tum banaa do.bolna bahot aasaan he
That is probably stupidest comment i have seen. If doing is not possible then shut your mouth and stop claiming this false successes. This is not election rally where you claim/promise anything without credibility.

If it cost less then one lakh dollars like they have got in Yamen it would be revolutionary.
i do not get what you trying to say here. It is suppose to be cheaper missile and viable alternative/Force multiplier to costly Brahmos. It all depend on how quickly we pull this program together and make it as successful as Brahmos and within shorter time
