F-35 Program Reaches Production Milestone, Enters Full-Scale Manufacturing

WASHINGTON – The United States Department of Defense (DoD) made a landmark announcement on Tuesday, formally approving full-rate production of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The long-anticipated decision, known as Milestone C, represents a major achievement for the ambitious defense program.

William LaPlante, the undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment, authorized the move after the Defense Acquisition Board, which he chairs, met on March 7th. The board thoroughly evaluated the F-35's readiness for full-scale production.

LaPlante underscored the decision's importance, calling it "a major achievement for the F-35 program." He further noted, “This decision — supported by my colleagues in the department — underscores to the services, F-35 cooperative program partners, and foreign military sales customers the stability and agility of the F-35, as well as the fulfillment of all statutory and regulatory requirements.”

The approval for full-rate production indicates confidence in the maturity of the F-35 program, a multi-role stealth fighter jet intended to replace aging aircraft across various branches of the US military. It highlights years of rigorous testing, evaluation, and development to ensure the aircraft meets demanding performance requirements for the US and its allies.

The F-35 is poised to remain a key element in enhancing air combat and multi-mission capabilities for the United States and its partners around the globe. This milestone affirms the commitment to providing advanced and reliable aircraft that underpin national security strategies.

With the green light for full-rate production, the emphasis now turns to increasing output to satisfy the demands of both US forces and international customers. The F-35's proven performance, coupled with its ongoing upgrades, solidifies its position as an indispensable asset in modern military aviation, ready to meet the evolving threats of the future.

More F-35s on this one line than HAL has ever achieved, or will achieve for a fair while. Still, good for them. One only hopes (very sincerely and with some futility at thus point) that we can do something similar.

Well, it took them a over a decade to achieve this and over 1000 orders and unlimited resources and money.

HAL only ever had a fraction of these for tejas

All NATO allies will be looking to place more orders and with NATO expanding more countries will want to order more jets. Also with the war in Ukraine it's made NATO countries to buy more jets than they usually would which is why they have started full production.

To acquire stealth planes before 2030, India could ask (really convince) US to sell us 48-60 F-35As (as AMCA will only field in numbers by 2035), while we either reduce MRFA (Rafales + Rafale Ms) numbers (while compromising local assembly) or keep MRFA intact (114+26=140 with local assembly of Rafales) and generate extra Defense Budget for the F-35s...Of course we will have issues of $s, convincing/trusting US etc..., but it can give us stealth capability at least 5 years earlier than AMCA...48-60 F-35As, could be about $250+Million per jet (including weapons, integration etc...) potentially cheaper or equal to MRFA...We should think about it.

We should stick to rafales & not add another logidtic & supply chain issues from US which as per our experience is unreliable & even hostile at times like harbouring & supporting anti india elements A combination of SUs, Tejas & RafLes should be focussed

How stu pid those countries are who have fallen for this charade. This is USA.. out of 240 yrs of independence, only 12 - 15 years of peace.. rest of the years always at war or supporting wars of stu pidos fighting each other..
