Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) commenced construction of a state-of-the-art trailing suction hopper dredger (TSH) for an international client. The plate cutting ceremony, marking the official start of the shipbuilding process, was held earlier at the GSL shipyard in Vasco da Gama.

This advanced TSH dredger is being built for the Jan De Nul Group, a Luxembourg-based maritime infrastructure company. The vessel is designed as a plug-in hybrid, capable of operating autonomously for up to four hours, minimizing emissions and noise pollution, especially crucial for operations in densely populated areas like marinas.

The 79-meter long vessel will have a hopper capacity of 2000 cubic meters. Its maneuverability and low environmental impact make it ideal for dredging operations in confined spaces and areas with strict environmental regulations.

The contract for this TSH dredger was signed in June 2024, with a delivery timeline of 24 months. GSL also holds an option to construct a second, identical vessel for Jan De Nul Group in the future.

This project represents GSL's ongoing diversification into the global commercial shipbuilding market. The company has a strong track record of delivering various types of vessels, including offshore patrol vessels and fast interceptor boats, primarily for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. This new venture into dredger construction further strengthens GSL’s position as a leading shipbuilder in India.
