In a historic first, Greek fighter jets have landed on Indian soil, signifying a major milestone in defence cooperation between the two nations. This landmark event precedes the commencement of the multilateral air exercise "Tarang Shakti Phase 2", scheduled to take place in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, from August 30 to September 14.

The Hellenic Air Force of Greece has deployed four F-16 jets from the 336 Squadron, accompanied by two C-130 carriers transporting technicians and equipment. This participation underscores Greece's expanding defence collaboration on the global stage, as its armed forces actively engage in numerous military drills worldwide. The signing of a memorandum on military cooperation between Greece and India in April 2023 further solidified the defence ties between the two countries.

"Tarang Shakti Phase 2" will encompass a wide array of aerial operations, including air combat, defensive and offensive maneuvers, strikes on ground and surface targets, and coordinated efforts with international forces. This exercise offers a valuable platform for participating nations to enhance interoperability and bolster their military capabilities.

This collaboration between India and Greece exemplifies a broader trend of military engagements for the Hellenic Armed Forces, encompassing deployments of elite commandos to the United States and large-scale exercises in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean. It is also perceived as a reciprocal gesture following India's participation with Su-30MK fighter jets in the multinational "Iniochos" exercise hosted by Greece in 2023.

The deepening military cooperation between India and Greece reflects both countries' strategic interests in strengthening their defence capabilities and fostering stronger international ties.

Other countries joining "Tarang Shakti Phase 2" include Australia, the USA, Singapore, and the UAE. The exercise is a multi-phase endeavor, with the first phase successfully concluded from August 6 to 14 at the Sulur Airbase in Tamil Nadu, featuring participation from France, Germany, Spain, and the UK.
