After a 2021 Republican report; which had revealed that America had actually funded gain of function research which seemingly caused the deadly & highly infectious Coronavirus to leak from the Wuhan Laboratory & caused millions of deaths globally ultimately; another latest revelation has left the world stunned and stirred another hornet's nest.
The latest Republican report reveals that the DID funded hundreds of advanced research projects related to military aviation over the last 2 years worth billions of American taxpayer dollars. These projects were carried out by university research centres in China which are, in turn, directly linked to Chinese defense establishment & also blacklisted by the U.S. Government for direct links to Chinese military.
The report by the House Republicans on the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party has just been released & reveals that the U.S.-funded research has catalyzed & accelerated Chinese advancements in military aviation as evident with the development & unveiling of its latest J-36 6th generation stealth fighter project, besides the newer J-35A 5th generation fighter and the under development H-20 flying wing bomber.
The report reveals that "These collaborations involved research in sensitive technical domains such as hypersonics, quantum sensing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced materials, cyber warfare, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems, and next-generation propulsion—many with clear military applications."
The report comes as a shock for the U.S. & most other defense establishments globally, especially with America being literally locked in a pitched battle with China for technological & geopolitical supremacy.
Further, the U.S-backed technological catapulting of China's military aviation capabilities poses a serious security challenge & military threat to the U.S. allies in the Asia-Pacific region; namely, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Philippines & India, many of whom have a history & legacy of territorial disputes, acrimony & regional rivalry with China.
For India, being an immediate neighbour and the torrid India-China relations; it further compounds India's security challenges given China's traditional numerical overmatch, with 62 fighter squadrons against India's 31, also turning into a qualitative edge as well now, especially with the potential transfer of the advanced technologies to Pakistan in future; as seen with the use of long range PL-15E BVR missile in Op Sindoor; which is likely to further exacerbate the situation as well as regional dynamics in Asia and South Asia.
The same has already started a renewed arms race in the region with the opening salvos of the slugfest having already been fired, in form, of multiple new defense deals for cutting edge defense equipment for technological parity while favoring only one entity, ie the U.S. defense industrial base with its state-of-the-art & cutting edge technological capabilities...!
