The Indian Air Force (IAF) is taking significant steps to bolster the security of its critical airbases with the announcement of a project to procure and implement an advanced Integrated Perimeter Security System (IPSS).
The IAF intends to deploy this system at 30 airbases across the nation, significantly enhancing intrusion detection and response capabilities.
Vendors Wanted: Comprehensive System Integration
The IAF is seeking experienced vendors capable of supplying, installing, integrating, and commissioning (SITIC) the complex IPSS solution. The envisioned system will integrate multiple surveillance technologies to provide security personnel with a comprehensive real-time picture and integrated video analytics for swift decision-making.
Multi-Layered Defence Strategy
The IPSS will employ a robust, multi-layered security approach utilizing five distinct sensor layers for maximum intrusion detection:- Layer 1: Electrical Smart Power Fence (ESPF): Provides initial perimeter breach detection.
- Layer 2: CCTV Cameras: Visible and near-infrared cameras with IR illuminators, featuring advanced video analytics and automatic intrusion detection.
- Layer 3: Radars: Long-range detection of intrusions.
- Layer 4: Underground Vibration Detection System (UVDS): Detects underground movement and tunneling attempts via dedicated Optical Fibre Cable (OFC).
- Layer 5: Dual PTZ Cameras: Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras equipped with both thermal and visible imaging for detailed threat assessment.
Eyes in the Sky: Optional Aerial Surveillance
The RFI highlights the potential addition of Mini Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to the security system. These centrally-controlled UAVs would offer aerial surveillance of the base perimeter, providing additional situational awareness during security threats or breaches.
