India and Greece have significantly strengthened their strategic partnership by signing a Joint Declaration of Intent to boost defence industrial cooperation.

The agreement was signed in New Delhi following bilateral talks between Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Greek Minister of National Defence Nikolaos-Georgios Dendias on February 9, 2026.

Key Highlights of the Agreement:

1. Five-Year Roadmap: The declaration serves as the foundation for a structured five-year roadmap to expand defence industrial ties with joint manufacturing, technology sharing and defence co-production in the plans.

2. Industrial Synergy: Both nations agreed to link India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative with Greece’s Agenda 2030 defence reforms to expand indigenous production capacities.

3. Military Cooperation Plan 2026: A bilateral plan for the year 2026 was exchanged, outlining future military-to-military engagements and joint exercises.

4. Maritime Security: Greece announced the positioning of a Greek International Liaison Officer at the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram to enhance maritime domain awareness.

5. Shared Assets: Discussions highlighted technical synergies involving shared military platforms, such as the Rafale fighter jet, which both countries operate.

This pact is being seen as a move to counter the growing Turkey-Pakistan alliance by building a strong Mediterranean-to-Indo-Pacific security axis.

The Greek delegation also visited major defence and industrial hubs in Bengaluru to interact with Indian Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and start-ups...
