India Prepares for Maiden Akash Missile Delivery to Armenia

India is embarking on a new era in its defence export sector with the upcoming delivery of its Akash surface-to-air missile (SAM) system to Armenia.

This pivotal event marks Armenia as the first nation to purchase the indigenously developed Akash system.

Early reports suggest deliveries could begin as soon as next year, potentially establishing a foundation for a long-lasting defence partnership between India and Armenia.

Building the Foundation

Though deliveries are expected next year, the foundation for this collaboration will be laid sooner, likely involving training for Armenian personnel this year on the intricacies of the Akash system and its associated radar.

While details remain classified, Armenia is expected to procure the advanced Akash-1S variant, boasting an indigenously developed seeker for enhanced target acquisition and interception abilities.

Quantity and Impact

The exact quantity of Akash units destined for Armenia remains undisclosed.

However, it's widely acknowledged that the system, capable of neutralizing enemy aircraft and missiles at ranges of 18 to 30 kilometers, will significantly augment Armenia's air defence capabilities.

Significance Beyond the Technology

This export deal carries importance beyond the procurement of advanced weaponry. It highlights India's increasing capacity to develop and export cutting-edge defence technologies.

For Armenia, the Akash system represents a crucial protective shield against aerial threats, offering the potential to maintain regional stability.

The inclusion of a training component highlights a commitment to build a lasting partnership and indicates a likelihood of deepening military cooperation between the two countries.

Conclusion

The upcoming delivery of the Akash missile system to Armenia is not just a transaction; it's a multifaceted development with both tactical and strategic implications.

It underscores India's rise as a defence exporter and reinforces Armenia's defences in a potentially volatile region. Perhaps most importantly, this collaboration could pave the way for a more deeply rooted and enduring strategic partnership between India and Armenia.

More weapons should b exported to Armenia Next should b Astra MK1 Missile/ Brahmos

We need to give them anti-drone systems on priority - to take out the thurki bayractar ankas & akincies.

Have you had a peg or what?
Sanket, they do not have anything to carry the Astra Mk1 missiles. we are just trying to integrate them into our fighters.
Brahmos is very expensive for Armenia.

Akash IS will be a great deterrence against Azerbaijan fighters and drones.

And it will be a great fillip for our defense industry.

WE SHOULD SEND SOME MILITARY ADVISORS TO ARMENIA... AZERBEIJAN HAS UPPER HAND RIGHT NOW

Yeah, armenian defence officials have visited multiple anti drone system manufacturers in India like zen technologies. They may have bought some tech.

It would be a good test against Turkish drones..
Turkish drones would be sitting ducks, since they are large and slow moving. Fighter jets, cruise missiles etc would be difficult targets since they fly very fast or have warning receivers and can maneauvre.

at a time when most nations of the global south are either moving towards NATO or china/russia. Armenia putting its faith on india is a gift from heaven. An opportunity india should not waste.

Armenia have 4 Su-30SM ,upgrading these Flankers & Training pilots with Indian Technian with Integration of Astra & Brahmos Armenia can strike deep inside Azerbaijan . Buddy you can read this on Google too.

If that decision is made then neither india nor armenia will tell anyone. If conflict breaks out between armenia and azerbaijan then allegations will be made about indian officers engaging azerbaijan using indian weapons.

It is one of the main reasons why all nato countries have publicly maintained that they dont have officers in ukraine. But behind the scenes they are there, to help ukrainians operate western weapons

Azerbeijan has a much bigger population and is much richer than Armenia.
So it always have the upper hand.
Unless you want to send a lakh of IA soldiers to help.

Azerbaizan has same fighter jets as Armenia, old Soviet jets and same numbers too, both have S-300 that they inherited from Soviet, the real difference between them is drones provided to azerbaizan by both Turkey and Israel, so we need to provide Armenia a lot of batteries of Anti Drone systems, but we ourselves doesn’t have a capable one.

we have lots of anti drone systems, they just dont get the publicity that flashy stuff like S400 or akash etc get. Zen technologies and big bang boom have developed anti drone systems, and drdo has developed them as well, and indian military has already bought them and put them in service.

We just need to offer them all to Armenia, it would be the best testing ground free of cost, if armenia can kill all the drones they can easily win, Armenian army is much experienced and powerful than Azerbaizanian, but they are too old school and follow old Soviet tactics and they also lack advanced tools.

we have already offered them to armenia, and armenia visited their offices and may have bought them already. You are correct about them being old school, and they have already realised it, that is why they are modernising their weapons and tactics, and are looking at new partners like India.

Any SU-30 can not carry Brahmos. They need to be remanufactured to strengthen to carry Brahmos. And then Astra I is another story.

meh only need few good military advisors and a predator mindset

arab countries has 100 times population than zews, still got wh00ped by them

I don't think Zen is enough. We need to develop even more complex soft kill and hard kill anti drone technologies to deal with these thurkis.
