India to Deploy US Predator Drones in UP and Tamil Nadu

India is set to significantly boost its surveillance and strike capabilities with the strategic deployment of 31 MQ-9B Predator drones acquired from the United States. These advanced drones will be stationed in the states of Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, with a projected cost of $4 billion and initial deliveries expected by the end of 2026.

The Indian Navy will receive 15 MQ-9B Predators, while the Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF) will each receive eight. This acquisition builds on the Navy's existing fleet of two leased Sea Guardian drones, which have proven successful in reconnaissance missions. The new drones will be based at INS Rajali in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu. The Army and IAF will likely station their Predators in Gorakhpur and Sarsawa, with four drones at each base. Training for personnel is expected to commence in the United States ahead of the first deliveries.

Manufactured by General Atomics, the MQ-9B is widely used by the US Air Force and NATO allies. Its impressive range of 1,800 km, long endurance, and ability to fly at 50,000 feet will significantly enhance India's maritime and border surveillance capabilities. The Sea Guardians will be particularly valuable in monitoring the Indian Ocean, while the land-based drones will strengthen surveillance along the borders with Pakistan and China.

Importantly, the MQ-9B is not limited to surveillance. Armed with AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and other munitions, it can engage both ground and aerial targets. This capability adds a new dimension to India's defense posture.

The strategic placement of MQ-9B Predator drones represents a major upgrade to India's military capabilities. These advanced systems will bolster surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike operations, enhancing India's ability to safeguard its maritime and land borders.

This hardware will not arrive as long as Biden is in the White House and his anti Indian staff pursues policies against India. They want us to stop importing Russian oil.

Recently IN used them in actual operations, the same was very well appreciated.
Therefore to increase its sale as well combat capabilities , the parent company will definitely move accordingly.
In US this is a big industry with influence globally.
For example the sale of F-16s was increased due to Israel operations on Iraqi's so called WMD.
