NEW DELHI - The Indian Army has taken a firm stance against the unauthorized use of its uniforms, medals, and patented combat attire, announcing a zero-tolerance policy and warning of legal consequences for offenders.
Amid growing concerns over the misuse of military symbols and attire, the Army has vowed to take action against individuals and organizations found disrespecting the sanctity of military decorations and uniforms.
"The Army headquarters has taken a stern view of such violations," a senior officer told the Times of India, emphasizing that those who disregard this sanctity will face severe consequences.
A Noida-based event management firm was issued a warning after an employee was spotted flaunting Army medals at a function. The firm has since issued a written apology and pledged to prevent future occurrences.
Furthermore, legal proceedings have been initiated against a retired Lieutenant Colonel who appeared on a YouTube podcast wearing the rank of Colonel, an act that violates the Regulations for the Army, 2010.
The unauthorized sale of the Army's newly patented combat uniform, featuring a unique digital disruptive camouflage pattern, has also drawn the attention of the authorities. The Army, in collaboration with military intelligence and police, has conducted raids in various states like Maharashtra and Rajasthan to curb the illicit trade of these uniforms, citing potential misuse for nefarious activities.
The Army has further urged government ministries and state authorities to prohibit their uniformed personnel from wearing camouflage fatigues similar to those of the Army, to avoid confusion and maintain the distinct identity of military personnel during law enforcement operations.
The Army's actions are aimed at safeguarding the honor and respect associated with military uniforms and medals. The force maintains that such symbols are not merely attire but represent the sacrifices and valor of soldiers, and their misuse undermines the integrity of the armed forces.
