The Indian Army is set to host two groundbreaking events, HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2 and HIMTECH 2024, aimed at accelerating the development and adoption of military technologies specifically designed for high-altitude operations.

HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2, scheduled for September 17-18 in Wari La near Leh, will provide a unique platform for indigenous drone manufacturers to demonstrate their cutting-edge solutions in the challenging high-altitude environment. The event will test drones under real-world conditions at altitudes between 4,000 and 5,000 meters, where reduced lift, degraded engine performance, extreme cold, and high wind speeds pose significant challenges.

Major General CS Mann emphasized the critical need for systems tailored to the Indian Army's unique operational requirements. He noted that the rarified atmosphere and extreme weather conditions in high-altitude regions demand specialized solutions not readily available elsewhere. Success in this domain could not only enhance the Indian Army's capabilities but also position India as a global leader in drone manufacturing.

Following the drone showcase, HIMTECH 2024 will take place in Leh on September 20-21. This first-of-its-kind event, held in collaboration with FICCI, will focus on showcasing and fostering the development of technologies tailored for high-altitude operations. It will feature a wide range of equipment and technologies, including unmanned systems, all-terrain mobility solutions, autonomous systems, and advanced soldier systems.

Both events underscore the Indian Army's commitment to leveraging technology to enhance its operational capabilities. Additionally, they highlight the potential for dual-use technologies, where innovations developed for military applications can also benefit civilian sectors, especially in high-altitude regions like Ladakh.
