Visakhapatnam, India – The Indian Navy has taken a major step towards enhancing its fire safety preparedness with the commissioning of a cutting-edge Fire Fighting Training Facility (FFTF) at INS Vishwakarma.

Developed by Electropneumatics & Hydraulics (I) Pvt. Ltd (EPHL), this indigenous facility provides a realistic and immersive training environment for naval personnel to combat fires onboard ships.

The FFTF boasts a unique three-deck structure that simulates a real ship environment, complete with an underground propane yard, water hose training range, and advanced water storage, handling, and purification systems. This comprehensive setup allows trainees to experience various fire scenarios and practice their skills in a controlled setting.

Safety is a top priority at the FFTF. The facility adheres to stringent international safety standards, including DIN 14097 and NFPA guidelines, ensuring a secure training environment. Trainees can confidently engage in exercises knowing that robust safety protocols are in place.

The facility's simulator replicates five critical areas commonly prone to fires on ships: the engine room, machinery control room, galley, mess deck, and helicopter deck. By simulating fires in these areas, the FFTF provides invaluable hands-on experience in tackling real-world fire emergencies.

A centralized control system, driven by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), manages and monitors the fire simulation exercises. This allows for consistent and repeatable training scenarios, adaptable to specific learning objectives.

This new facility joins other advanced training centers within the Indian Navy, such as the NBCD School at INS Shivaji, which also focuses on fire fighting and damage control training. The continued investment in such facilities highlights the Navy's dedication to the safety and preparedness of its personnel.
