India's Potential 12,000km Range "Surya" ICBM Could Target the West, Alleges Pakistani Analyst

A Pakistani defence analyst has sparked debate by suggesting that India is developing a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with the potential to target Western countries.

Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal of Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad claims that the alleged "Surya" ICBM could have a range of 10,000 to 12,000 kilometers, bringing even the United States within striking distance.

Jaspal's comments, made to World Echo News, highlight anxieties in Pakistan about India's growing missile capabilities. He argues that the development of such a missile should be of greater concern to the West and Russia than to Islamabad, as current Indian missiles can already reach any point in Pakistan.

However, India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has consistently denied the existence of any Surya ICBM project. DRDO officials maintain that India's missile program focuses on regional deterrence and falls within its strategic needs. They emphasize that there are no plans to develop an ICBM with a range exceeding that of the Agni series.

India's Agni-V, with a range of 5,500 to 6,000 kilometers, is currently the country's most advanced missile. Designed primarily to address perceived threats from China, it can reach targets across most of Asia and parts of Europe. While a Surya missile would represent a significant leap in India's capabilities, the DRDO has repeatedly dismissed such speculation.

The Surya concept appears to stem from unconfirmed reports and discussions within defence circles, lacking any official confirmation from the Indian government. India maintains a "no first use" nuclear policy and emphasizes its commitment to a credible minimum deterrent rather than a global strike capability.

Currently, India seems to be prioritizing advancements in other areas, such as indigenous ballistic missile defence systems and modernizing its existing missile arsenal. The focus remains on addressing regional security challenges rather than extending its missile reach to Western nations.

For Pakistan 750km missile is enough and why they are worrying about Agni-5 or Surya ICBM. They should worry, if India develops submarine launched ICBMs for second strike capability. Anyway, India have k-4 with 3500 km range submarine launched for 2nd strike capability and ofcourse US, Europe will have strong concerns on Surya ICBM and not Russia.

The kind of ISR Capability US and Russia has, US developed it specially under star Wars Program , Even if indian missile can reach US , wont pose that much significant threat. But yes it will be first step for india to think to dominate the world instead only Indian ocean. US SBIRS system can watch everyone inside ur room in IR mode in live condition.

India is not going to waste its efforts and resources on missiles which is does not need for self defense. So Surya may be a technically feasible option but it will never be developed. Instead, DRDO will improve range and efficiency of existing missiles.

This Pakistani “professor” Jaspal in this article is attempting to incite concern among western nations over the development and reach of India’s ballistic missiles. He is suggesting, to the naive mind that the mere presence of these weapons in the hands of Indians, constitutes a threat and danger to western nations, and they should be concerned. He is trying to incite in western nations fear of India and Indians, by deflecting their eyes from the mountains of evidence that Pakistan is the most dangerous terrorist state in the world, concurrent with their on-going terrorist attack in Kashmir. Nice cover and deflection, huh?

Whilst covering the the eyes of the naive to the truth, that India’s weapons, were developed as an important security imperative in light of the hostile neighbourhood in which India lives, and that Pakistan should be the country concerned, (as it has recently shown that it has not foresworn terror against India), that notwithstanding all its economic troubles it has maintained non-stop its terror infrastructure (its madrassas, terrorist training camps, political cover, and facilitation by the Pak. Army). Why? Why in the face of a collapsing economy? Why in the face of growing disunity, internal strife and terrorism, their debt burden, and fragmentation of the Pakistani nation? Why? This is tgd urgency of the moment? Is Pakistan trying to do a makeover, so instead of doing something to fix its face, if this is fixable, it is pretending to be able to intelligibly read the heart of India, and share the “immutable truths” of the malign intent of India, to the world.

Progress of Pakistan’s makeover: Pakistan and its octopus-like terrorist reach, has sleeper cells across the free world, (waiting for orders from the terrorist proxies, like the LeT of Saeed,, etc) lurking among their naive hosts in numerous neighborhoods of western capitals, and this, and not India’s security measures caused by Pakistan and its iron brother, should be the concern of the dishonest ”Prof. Jaspal” and western nations. If you want incontrovertible proof, mountains of it, just add up the numerous terrorist attacks, emanating from and with support from Pakistan, in India and in Europe, America, in the last 25 years, (such as Pakistan’s direct involvement in 9/11, San Bernardino, the Mumbai massacre, the Madrid bombings, the bombings in the UK, in Africa, to name a very few), and see the continuing menace to civilization of the presence of an unremitting lunatic, fanatic, terrorist state that Pakistan is.

Quite recently, a Pakistani hit man for Iran, was arrested for plotting the assassination of President Trump. Should not this so-called professor, be concerned that should this have been done by a Pakistani, what the free world would have thought about the character of Pakistan, and the destructive military blow--back upon the Pakistani people?

This “professor” has accomplished some thing, however, and that is to get ordinary Indians and Americans, mostly uninformed, to be at each other’s throats, and to begin to sling insults at each other, as seen in the comments section of this article. But at the levels of the US State Department, and the personnel of the South Block of India, there is ongoing deeper cooperation, and growing amity between the the most populous democracy and the most powerful democracy. The exigencies considered at this level are historical facts, and not the wild presumptions of some no name professor, well paid for this puerile article.

Properly placed, both these countries and their august technocrats are both concerned with those malign political differences and ideological propensities that lead nations to become terrorist states, bent on the destructions of neighbours far and wide, whilst not seeing that they imperil their own existence, when scarce resources are expended on terror, and the dire needs of the people are neglected. Pakistan is such a country, going yes, but not knowing where to, but borrowing heavily to get there, but uncertain as to its destination. That is where Sharia Law gets them.

These Pakistani analyst analyse defence related things all over the world as if they are super power or in league of to be super power. They are very proud of other countries supplied nuclear weapons but this boasting comes from some other countries backing to this begger country against India. Islamic suppermacy also not allow them to be submissive. Otherwise Pakistan like begger countries should have focused only on wellbeing of their people.

Excellent. Time for India to graduate to ICBM's that can cover the globe also. India should NOT be blackmailed by any other country with bigger nuke stockpiles/ranges or other rogue nations who are always screaming we will use our nukes on you.
Yeh Dar accha hai.

A country made crude pistol in a Pakistani hand should be a problem for the whole universe.

Every nation declares it's national security doctrine. We made China and Pakistan as our major nations of concern and adversaries.

Granted,we can use this missile against a EU nation but only if it endanger our identity, existence and safety.

Pakistan and its so called analysts are only mouth pieces for the killing mob called the Pak Army. Cannot be taken seriously by any sensible person.

Why is the so called analyst so paranoid about ICBM Suriya's range and implicating US to instigate the Americans. Indian scientists or analysts have not shown any concerns or getting paranoia about pakis and chinese missile developments. china too has ICBM which has a range of hitting targets in US but the analysts did not react hysterically.

Actually that should be least of their Concerns, tackling their Insurgency and seeking lasting Peace with India and not facilitating Insurgency in India could help immensely, the Militants end up as Cannon Fodder and gives Invaluable Practice to the Indians in various Tactics, which would prove useful to them in any future Conflict, besides looks like they are not interested in taking any of those Militants Prisoners too.🤔

Rather than ICBMs, India's current focus should be on developing SLBMs with range 8k to 10k Km.

Indian Govt can use the excuse that SLBMs are meant to be used from SSBNs that can positioned way beyond India's Border in case of a Nuclear conflict.

The kind of ISR Capability US and Russia has, US developed it specially under star Wars Program , Even if indian missile can reach US , wont pose that much significant threat. It depends. MIRV with decoys can overwhelm American defences. But it will take like 400-500 MIRV with decoys at the very least. In anyways America will not be India's primary enemy for the next 30 years least. China is our biggest threat for this century.

USA, Russia has more than 5000 nuclear weapons each so they no need to worry about. India's threat currently mainly is China since India doesnot give much importance to Pakistan since India already have anti ballistic missile so it need to develop further for hypersonic missile and direct energy weapon.

Jaspal man is better advised to expand his mind to current paradigm in veo-political- military threats coming from various distant directions to regional coutries like Iran, Syria and Pakistan, soon on account of its nuclear capacity which does not please the West and its regional proxies. India is doing what it thinks is best for deterence and its perceived future defence needs. Of all urgent military concerns in your area, you chose to highlight this, just to get at India. In my opinion, this was mindless.

Empty vessels make the most noise. These beggars are desperately trying to remain relevant to the world.
It's not working!
