In response to a recent increase in militant attacks in the Jammu region, the Jammu and Kashmir police have formed 19 specialized counter-terrorism units. These units, comprised of highly trained personnel, will be deployed across eight districts, with a focus on areas that have witnessed a surge in militant activity.
This move comes in the wake of several attacks on security forces in recent months, including the killing of an Army captain in an encounter in Doda district. The newly formed units will conduct anti-militancy operations, handle route crime, and maintain law and order in their respective areas.
The counter-terror units will be equipped with the latest equipment and technology and will work in close coordination with other security agencies to combat the growing militant threat in the region.
The Jammu and Kashmir police have also created a special force of 960 recruits from border villages to further strengthen their efforts against militancy and infiltration.
The government has also deployed 4000 additional security personnel, including 500 elite para commandos, in the forest areas of the Jammu region to counter the rising threat.
The deployment of these specialized counter-terrorism units is expected to significantly enhance the security forces' capability to combat militancy in the region and maintain peace and stability.
