Jindal Stainless Empowers Indian Navy with Advanced Alloy for SMART System

Jindal Stainless, a leading stainless steel manufacturer in India, has played a crucial role in enhancing the Indian Navy's anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

The company developed and supplied specialized 3 mm alloy steel sheets that serve as key structural components within the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) Supersonic Missile-Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) system.

This system underwent a successful flight test off the coast of Odisha.

Jindal Stainless's Critical Material Contribution

The alloy steel sheets provided by Jindal Stainless are essential for the SMART system's functionality. They are uniquely engineered to withstand the extreme pressures and temperatures encountered during flight.

This specialized material was developed by Jindal Stainless' strategic vertical, Jindal Defence and Aerospace, within a remarkably short timeframe.

Significance of the SMART System

Commenting on the landmark development, the Managing Director, of Jindal Stainless, Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, said, “The successful flight-testing of the Navy’s SMART system is a significant milestone in India's strategic defence capabilities beyond the conventional range of light-weight torpedo. Jindal Stainless is a proud contributor to bolstering the Indian Navy through the canister-based missile system that demands materials of the highest quality to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Jindal Stainless' special alloy steel sheets have been rigorously tested to meet and exceed the stringent requirements for such critical applications.”

The SMART System's Capabilities

SMART incorporates an advanced lightweight torpedo as its payload, along with a parachute-based release system. This design enables deployment from both coastal locations and warships.

According to the defense ministry, several state-of-the-art mechanisms were validated during the recent test, including symmetric separation, ejection, and velocity control.

Conclusion

The successful collaboration between Jindal Stainless and DRDO, culminating in the development and testing of the SMART system, marks a considerable advancement in India's naval defense capabilities.

Jindal Stainless remains a steadfast partner in supporting these strategic endeavors, providing advanced materials crucial for safeguarding the nation's maritime interests.

MUST build NGMBT-FMBT Arjun MK2 tanks using ONLY HNS Steel produced by Jindal Steel and Midhani next. BAN totally ALL the imports of RHA steel from Russia or UK 100%! Also, for Kanchan3 new armour of sandwich HNS steel plates, please delete ceramics layer totally and replace with suitable NAL-HAL developed shape-memory polymer composite alloy materials; in order to make it much much more lighter and stronger than Kanchan2 sandwich armour w/ RHA steel plates...

Does this mean we can make high strength non magnetic hulls for our submarines???

Currently we need to develop more missiles and keep a adequate amount in stock for at least a one month intensive war. We also need to develop the manufacturing capability to make any missiles or shells at a short notice so we should develop the machinery and factories 100% indigenously and not simply importing and then making the supplies or ammunition.

Currently countries that make missiles do with metal but that needs to change. We need to change the metal and use composite materials for the exterior cover or sections inside as this will make the missile much more lighter which can increase the range, reduce the manufacturing costs along with having a longer expiry date as it cuts down on the metal rust or natural degradation.

Impressive knowledge on Metallurgy👍

It is "google knowledge" only Sirji. Search DMRL Midhani HNS steel. Then search Arjun MK2 modern composites Kanchan armour. Already composites sandwich layer have replaced ceramics and glass fibre ones in modern western and Japanese-Korean tanks. BUT, IA Generals are delaying NGMBT-FMBT developments purposely, in order to get Armata tanks of Roos. They have blocked usage of HNS steel and composites to develop newer Kanchan3 armour plates now!!
