Made in India: L&T’s Sudarshan SHORAD Gets Greenlight for Rs 7,000 Crore Deal

In a major boost to India’s air defense and self-reliance, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved a Rs 7,000 crore deal for the procurement of close-in weapon systems from Indian defense giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T). This includes the ambitious “Made in India” Close-in Weapon System (CIWS) project, based on the company’s advanced Sudarshan SHORAD system.

The Sudarshan SHORAD is a state-of-the-art Short-Range Air Defence System (SHORAD) designed and developed by L&T Defence. It boasts:

• 3D Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar: This provides 360-degree surveillance coverage, enabling early detection and tracking of aerial threats.
• Sophisticated threat identification: The system can accurately identify and classify incoming drones, helicopters, and low-flying aircraft.
• Effective engagement: The CIWS is designed to neutralize these threats effectively, protecting critical assets and installations.
• Multi-Platform System:The Sudarshan SHORAD system comprises three key elements:
  • Tracking Radar and Command & Control Unit: Provides situational awareness and coordinates defense actions.
  • Fire Control Radar: Accurately tracks and targets incoming threats.
  • Firing Unit: Delivers precise firepower to neutralize threats.

Overall, this approval marks a significant step forward for India’s air defense capabilities. The indigenous close-in weapon systems, with their advanced technology and multi-platform approach, will play a vital role in safeguarding the nation’s airspace.

LnT is not screw driving organisation. They can design and develop new arms like warship, submarine, tank, radars etc. HAL and government sectors are working as screw driver expert

I'm not talking of skies, I'm particularly concerned with our land border where salami slicing , intrusion and land grabbing is going on by our enemies at every opportune moment. Recent statements of our top General revealed that wherever the Chinese were trying to intrude they were staring at the barrels of tanks and retreated. So tanks are necessary at LAC to prevent frontal assault, but in a full-fledged war every platform has its own uses and nothing is indestructible.

what does air defense got to do with land border, the variant of Stryker that’s been offered is M-SHORAD which means Maneuver Short range Air Defense System
, it’s main purpose is to Maneuver with tactical units to detect, track,!identify and defeat Aerial threats providing 360* Air Survielance.
