In a move towards bolstering India's self-reliance in defence manufacturing, Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) has successfully indigenized the production of Multi Cable Transit (MCT) Glands, vital components used on warships.

This significant achievement not only reduces dependency on imports but also generates orders for Indian manufacturers, contributing to the growth of the domestic industry while saving valuable foreign exchange.

MCT Glands play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of cable entries on warships. These specialized glands are used to seal cable passages through bulkheads or deck heads, maintaining both gas-tight and water-tight conditions. A typical warship requires a substantial number of MCT Glands, with an average of approximately 950 glands of varying sizes needed per vessel.

Previously, MDL relied on imports from M/s Roxtec, Sweden, for its MCT Gland requirements. However, through a collaborative effort with M/s Wallmax, Faridabad, MDL has successfully overcome this dependency.

The indigenization process involved close cooperation between MDL and Wallmax, ensuring that the locally manufactured MCT Glands meet the stringent quality and performance standards required for naval applications.

This achievement contributes to the growth of the Indian manufacturing sector, generating employment opportunities and boosting the country's self-reliance in critical defence technologies.
