Navy Boosts Self-Reliance with iDEX-Developed Reeled Compressed Air Foam

In a move that underscores the 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) initiative, the Indian Navy has signed a major contract with M/s Adisan Systems LLP, an iDEX (Innovations for Defense Excellence) developer.

Under this agreement, Adisan Systems will replace imported shipboard firefighting systems with indigenously developed Reeled Compressed Air Foam (RCAF) systems.

This landmark contract represents a significant step for the Indian Navy in reducing dependence on foreign suppliers and fostering domestic innovation. RCAF systems are essential tools for rapidly and effectively extinguishing fires on naval ships, safeguarding both personnel and valuable equipment.

The journey from concept to contract was notably swift. In under 14 months, the RSAF system went through design, development, rigorous testing, and final approval. This accelerated timeline reflects the Navy's commitment to indigenous solutions and its support for innovation in the Indian defense sector.

By embracing domestically developed technology, the Indian Navy reinforces its commitment to self-sufficiency. This strategic shift allows greater control over the evolution and maintenance of critical defense systems, ensuring their ongoing suitability for unique naval requirements.

It's good that we have developed our own indigenous system but we also need to use the remote controlled fire fighting bot which can go to areas much closer to the flame or inaccessible to humans.

India needs to come up with larger big projects, technology and weapons capabilities in the iDEX challenge so start ups can submit their plans and after winning they can build it or make it successfully after receiving the funding.
