NewSpace's Solar-Powered HAPS Sets New National Record of 27 Hours in Air at 26,000 Feet

Bengaluru-based NewSpace Research & Technologies (NRT) is making waves in the Indian aerospace industry with its groundbreaking solar-powered High-Altitude Pseudo Satellite (HAPS). This cutting-edge drone, also known as a "pseudo-satellite," just smashed the national record for longest unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flight, clocking in at an impressive 27 hours in the air.

Not only did this solar-powered wonder stay aloft for nearly a full day, but it also reached a dizzying altitude of 26,000 feet during its test flight. This achievement signals a major leap forward for India's UAV capabilities, particularly when it comes to high-altitude operations.

Government Support Fuels Innovation

The Indian government's Innovation for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative played a crucial role in funding and supporting the development of NRT's HAPS platform.

This program is all about fostering homegrown innovation in the defense sector, and NRT's success is a shining example of what Indian companies can achieve with the right support.

What's Next for HAPS?

This record-breaking flight opens up a world of possibilities for HAPS technology in India. Picture these solar-powered drones providing cost-effective and eco-friendly solutions for everything from surveillance and communication to environmental monitoring. The potential applications are as vast as the sky itself!

NRT's achievement is a testament to the growing prowess of Indian aerospace companies. With HAPS leading the charge, we can expect to see even more exciting advancements in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles in the years to come.

These mini satellites can be used as long duration drones which can conduct surveillance, tracking, identification, SAR, EW, ESM, COMINT, SIGINT, SATCOM etc at a height above 30000ft. It's good they are running the tests but it was designed to stay up in the air for about 3 months and work from solar power.
