Indian security forces are preparing for a large-scale operation aimed at neutralizing a significant terrorist presence in the Jammu region's forested areas. This operation comes in response to a surge in terrorist activity since 2020, with attacks increasing in frequency and severity.

Intelligence reports reveal that approximately 40 heavily armed terrorists, mainly from the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), have infiltrated the region in the past year, joining forces with existing groups. These terrorists are highly trained and equipped, posing a formidable challenge to security forces.

The upcoming operation, expected to last several weeks, will involve a coordinated sweep through the affected areas, with a focus on blocking escape routes. The army has bolstered its presence in the region, deploying additional troops and specialized units.

To further tighten the net, the Srinagar-based 15 Corps will participate in sealing off escape routes through the Pir Panjal mountains, preventing terrorists from crossing into the Kashmir Valley.

The operation is reminiscent of 2003's Operation Sarp Vinash, which successfully targeted a similar terrorist presence. However, the current situation presents unique challenges due to the increased number and sophistication of the terrorists and the difficult terrain they operate in.

Since 2021, terrorists in Jammu have killed at least 51 security personnel, underscoring the urgency of the planned operation. Army is committed to restoring peace and security to the region and protecting citizens from the threat of terrorism.
