Sikkim Government Requests IAF Aid to Rescue Over 1,400 Tourists Stranded by Landslides

The Sikkim government has urgently requested assistance from the Indian Air Force (IAF) to evacuate over 1,400 tourists, including 15 foreign nationals, who are currently stranded in the northern part of the state due to devastating landslides triggered by heavy rainfall.

The Mangan district, particularly Lachung village, has been severely impacted, with roads and bridges washed away, leaving tourists stranded and cut off from essential services. The government is working closely with the IAF to coordinate the airlift operation, which will commence as soon as weather conditions permit.

In addition to the stranded tourists, the landslides have also resulted in nine fatalities, highlighting the severity of the situation. Rescue and relief teams are actively working to reach affected areas and provide necessary assistance to those in need.

The Sikkim government is closely monitoring the situation and has assured that all efforts are being made to ensure the safe and swift evacuation of all stranded tourists. Further updates on the airlift operation and rescue efforts will be provided as more information becomes available.
