South Korean KF-21 Boramae Soars Past Mach 1.8, Marking Major Milestone in Fighter Jet Development

South Korea's homegrown fighter jet, the KF-21 Boramae, has recently smashed through the sound barrier, exceeding speeds of Mach 1.8 during flight tests. This achievement comes hot on the heels of successful live-fire missile tests, demonstrating significant progress in the KF-21 program.

The KF-21 Boramae, a joint venture between South Korea and Indonesia, represents a leap forward in 4.5 generation fighter jet technology. The program's adherence to schedule highlights the seamless collaboration between the two nations.

This supersonic flight test is a testament to the combined expertise and innovation driving the project. As the KF-21 continues to hit key milestones, including high-speed testing and live-fire demonstrations, it moves closer to its ultimate goal: deployment within the South Korean Air Force.

Additional Information

The KF-21 Boramae, also known as the KF-X, is South Korea's second domestic fighter aircraft program, following the FA-50. The ambitious project aims to deliver a powerful and versatile fighter jet capable of meeting the evolving demands of modern aerial warfare.

According to Wikipedia, "the airframe is stealthier than any fourth-generation fighter, but at present, it does not have internal bays like fifth-generation fighters." This suggests that future iterations of the KF-21 could incorporate even more advanced stealth capabilities.

With the KF-21 program now in full swing, South Korea is poised to strengthen its defence capabilities and bolster its position in the global aerospace industry. The continued success of the Boramae promises a bright future for this cutting-edge fighter jet.

Our tejasmark 1A is still to come out of coma, and ADA is dreaming about AMCA.
These scientists are good at staying dreams to enjoy salary till retirement with out accountability. That is why not one goes to private companies.
All 50 plus scientist should be retired from ADA and fresh talent to be acquired with clear deliverables

Slap conditions instead, of no retirement benefits.

That's why only focus on one project rather than multiple one no project would have been delivered on time due to multiple projects under development

IOC is already done. Better to purchase KF21Boramae jets now, for 300+ millions usd per jet lifetime ops costs, rather than Rafale F4.2 jets I feel....

That is not the point. The culture of fear to test verse testing. Just the Tejas took ten years of slow testing to get IOC. They are flying it and taking risk and not wasting time. Tejas should according completed IOC by 2003.

Shameless, I always wondered why it took so long test. It is absolute shameless. What's should be done in year, is done over ten years. Everything get the super slow testing in India.

Simply merge ADA into HAl like- ADA-ARDC single body of HAL unit; one to design and another to critically evaluate the designs thoroughly...

Give this plane to IAF....they will test it for a decade and come up with 100 faults and improvements......and then will run around asking for direct import of Rafale's when F-16s slap them left right and centre....IAF procuremtn & planning brass was living on another planet altogether until 2014

But where are the products for testing? DRDO itself can't finish the product for decades.

Loose service contracts should be there 5,7,10,12,15,18,20yrsand soon. They should be encouraged to work in private companies world over and institutes of higher learning in developed countries , IITSand NITS The salaries must be linked to design development and production and must be way above civil service babus.

That's because their product is ready to be tested. Ours isn't. Something as simple as hot refueling wasn't available till 2018. That's something Russia and US had in the 60s.

Try giving DRDO products to South Korea and see the real magic. They will throw every single scientist into prison for the work they do.

i for the life of me cant understand how Indians are being made CEOs of major Western corporations. They can only talk and brag. Real work is done by East Asians and Eastern Europeans. By the time world moves on to 7th Gen test, India will have first flight of AMCA.

The same should be applied to most of the old bureaucrats in the policy making process. Turkey which has recently launched their fighter aircraft is already inviting muslim countries pakistan and even Malaysia in their fighter development programme. Now Indonesia is collaborating with S Korea in the KF-21 fighter programme. Soon Indonesia will be flying KF 21.

What makes me upset is that the policy in the bureaucracy is dragging their feet on the procurement of 114 MRFA for far too long. They think that Tejas Mk1A and Mk2 will make up the numbers in the IAF and this could could settle the issue of filling up 42 fighter squadrons in IAF. But the programme is moving in snail pace. I am just wondering how HAL is going cope up with AMCA and TEDBF.

We should close and shutdown all these R&D department, unnecessery waste of money with no result.Better import and try to make good relation,or else shake hand with Xi and give him whatever he wants, then there wont be any security issue and you can invest money in development.
