In a significant blow to Maoist insurgents in Telangana, the state police's elite anti-naxal force, the Greyhounds, gunned down seven members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) during a combing operation in the Eturnagaram forest area of Mulugu district on Sunday.

The operation was launched following the recent killing of two tribals by Maoists who accused them of being police informers. During the encounter, the Greyhounds commandos engaged with the Maoists, resulting in the deaths of seven insurgents. Police recovered two AK-47 rifles from the site and are conducting further investigations.

Among the deceased were key leaders of the Maoist organization, including CPI (Maoist) Telangana state committee secretary Kursam Mangu alias Bhadru and divisional committee member Egolapu Mallaiah.

This incident follows the brutal killing of two tribals, including a gram panchayat secretary, by Maoists on Thursday. The victims, Uika Ramesh and Uika Arjun, were allegedly murdered for providing information to the police about Maoist activities in the area.

The killings sparked outrage among tribal communities in the region, who organized a protest march demanding government support for the families of the deceased and action against the Maoist insurgents.

The elimination of key Maoist leaders is expected to significantly disrupt the organization's activities in the region. However, the incident also highlights the ongoing challenges posed by Maoist insurgency and the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to address the root causes of this conflict.
