In a move that could significantly bolster the defence ties between the two nations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has extended an offer to India for joint development and production of advanced defence technologies, including drones and electronic warfare systems. During a recent conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Zelenskyy expressed Ukraine's eagerness to engage in this collaborative effort, recognizing its potential to enhance the defence capabilities of both countries.

Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine's willingness to share its knowledge and technological advancements in these critical domains. "We will be very ready to share with you these products, and we will be happy if it can be co-production,” he conveyed to Prime Minister Modi, highlighting the potential for joint ventures in manufacturing these technologies. He also indicated that teams from both nations would soon begin to outline the contours of this prospective partnership.

The Ukrainian President also stressed the importance of strengthening the war economy in the face of ongoing conflict. He noted that wartime necessitates a focus on bolstering the military-industrial complex and fostering self-reliance in defence technologies. Zelenskyy believes that cooperation between Ukraine and India in this endeavor would be mutually beneficial, leading to a “win-win” situation for both countries.

This proposal offers India a chance to strengthen its indigenous defence industry. By partnering with Ukraine, India can gain from Ukrainian expertise in drone technology and electronic warfare systems, areas that have become increasingly crucial in contemporary warfare. Drones have proven their worth in surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat operations, while electronic warfare systems are indispensable for disrupting enemy communication and radar capabilities.
