A Chinese woman was arrested in Uttar Pradesh for attempting to unlawfully cross the Indo-Nepal border


According to police, a Chinese woman was arrested in Rupaideha after she was captured unlawfully crossing the Indo-Nepal border.

The woman was arrested on Saturday by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel while reportedly attempting to enter Nepal illegally by posing as a Buddhist monk, they continued. According to a senior SSB official, the woman had a Nepalese visa on her Chinese passport that was valid from November 19, 2023 to February 16, 2024 in Nepal and confirmed her arrival at Nepal's Tribhuvan Airport.

Investigations are underway to determine the purpose of her arrival and exit from India. According to the official, details of her travel in India are also being looked at.

The Chinese woman is being questioned at the Rupaideha police station, where the SSB has filed a case against her under Section 4(A) of the Foreigners Act, the official stated.

According to SSB Commandant GS Adawat, the woman raised suspicion after attempting to enter Nepal disguised as a Buddhist monk.

Adawat stated that the accused has been identified as Li Xinmei, a 45-year-old Chinese citizen from Shandong, based on her passport.

The commandant also said that the woman couldn't understand either Hindi or English during the first round of questioning, prompting the need for an interpreter to facilitate further interrogation.
