Adani Defence to Equip Next-Gen Sensors in India's Netra II AEW&C Project

Adani Defence & Aerospace has secured a pivotal role in enhancing India's aerial defense capabilities by being awarded the contract to integrate and deliver advanced sensors for the Netra II project. This significant development marks a step forward in the modernization of the country's Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) systems.

The Netra II project involves the development of six AEW&C aircraft, designed to act as force multipliers by detecting and tracking airborne threats such as enemy aircraft, missiles, and drones. Adani Defence & Aerospace, in collaboration with the DRDO, will be responsible for equipping these aircraft with cutting-edge sensors.

One of the standout features of Netra II is its expanded coverage area of 300 degrees, achieved through the integration of both dorsal and nose-cone radar systems. The system utilizes a powerful 4D Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) multi-mode radar, capable of operating in air-to-air and air-to-sea modes. This advanced radar technology, incorporating S-band and X-band functionalities, significantly enhances the aircraft's surveillance and detection capabilities.

Notably, Netra II's ability to track ballistic missiles strengthens India's anti-ballistic missile defense system. The aircraft's larger platform, utilizing pre-owned Airbus A321 aircraft, offers increased power and capacity compared to the Embraer-145 used in the earlier Netra Mark I.

Deliveries of the six Netra II AEW&C aircraft are expected to commence in 2025 and conclude by 2028, according to DRDO officials. Additionally, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is considering placing repeat orders for six more Embraer-145-based AEW&C aircraft, designated as Netra Mark IA, which will incorporate similar upgrades as Netra II but on the Embraer platform.

Great news for India and IAF.
Perhaps Adani Defense and Aerospace as a private company will make wheels of bureaucracy move and develop DRDO transferred technology very quickly and deliver the final product before milestones and deadlines.

If successful then it will be a boon for many other private companies too.

The overrepresentation of certain Bollywood celebrities and business figures in advertisements has raised concerns about diversity and fair representation. Similarly, there are questions about whether defense contracts and technology transfers are being awarded to a limited number of private companies, primarily those associated with certain regions or communities. The Ministry of Defence's definition of "private sector" appears to be rather narrow, raising concerns about fairness and equal opportunity for other qualified businesses.

If favouratism is there, then why other companies r not crying? Compete & get contract with favourable offer, simple..

Some progress 👍 Hope aircraft acquisition process is also going on parallelly, no news on that.

from past 60 years all defence contract are given to only two govt companies HAL and ordinance factory what they made so far in past 60 years nothing we have depend on foreign imported weapons. Even basic assault rifle is also we are importing it.
from past 60 DPSU has done nothing then what's harm in giving a try to private sector all around the globe the major defence companies are private companies only.

The aircraft have already been delivered to the IAF. These are six former Air India A321s. In fact, as best I have been able to find, the aircraft have also been partially repainted and some work has begun.

Well, if others wanted the contract, they should have bid better, shouldn't they? Stop this nonsensical messaging of yours, please. There are a fair number of contracts going to firms such as Tata, Kalyani, Mahindra, etc. Those have little to nothing to do with Gujarat.

You should read more about 'L1 bidder' in this project. Beliefs are not always right.

For DPSU chaaps, private companies bagging contracts and delivering is unbearable ! So their stomachache never ends !

My bro is rare mix of right wing and socialism. Probably his father or he himself works in a psu. It's a very common trend i've seen in psu employees.

Israeli aerospace has very good experience in repurposing aircraft and also in integrations of radars avionics etc. Adani has close partnerships with israeli defence entities. Maybe that expertise has come into play. Anyways this is a good news.

large indian corporates like adani, tata, jindal etc taking interest in defence, and in especially big ticket items like aerospace is a great move.

Chahe kisko bhi doh, made in promote hona chaiye aur jaldi result milna chaiye 👍

No entry for other private players. One day Adani will take over ADA, DRDO, & ISRO. HAL & BEL will have to close shop or work ad subsidiaries to Adani Defence.

It’s good that progress is being made but they should try and complete the work as quickly as they can. Usually Adani run companies deliver the work before the deadline without delays or problems which should be the new norm with all private or government run companies.

Also while they are looking for another six embraer planes to implement the advanced NETRA 1A they should also upgrade the original six NETRA 1 planes to enhance their performance. But in all NETRA 1&1A planes they need to increase and improve the coverage and amount of detection it can do which will help even more.

Very good decision , DRDO concieves designs and then hands over the production of systems to private partners to cut down on timelines . Retiring scientists technicians , foremen of project are then gainfully employed by the private sector to germinate and flower the newer generation of production , testing engineers who are handsomely paid as compared to DRDO employees and standing strength of non technical cadres and technicians is reduced considerably to generate more money to pour into RXD of future designs and projects .

The tender was open for anyone. Heck, if you or I had a factory, even we could compete. The simple fact of the matter is that Adani Defence won because they had the lowest bid. Don't read into this more than what is actually the case.

My father still works in a PSU, and I work in a very large private conglomerate. Believe you me when I say that folks working in PSUs aren't socialists. Don't generalise.
