In a joint operation, the Army's Military Intelligence (MI) at the Southern Command and the Ahmednagar police have apprehended Ajay Bisht, accused of orchestrating a fraudulent recruitment racket targeting aspiring candidates for the Indian Armed Forces.
Bisht allegedly collected approximately Rs. 2 lakhs from each of the 10+ victims, hailing from Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, under the false pretense of securing them jobs in the Army and defence civil services. The accused even exploited the trust of ex-servicemen's families, preying on their aspirations for their kin to serve the nation.
The operation culminated in Bisht's arrest on Tuesday night from an Ahmednagar market, where he was reportedly seeking more victims. A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against him at the Camp police station in Bhingar.
Army authorities confirmed Bisht's involvement in the scam, stating he used his purported acquaintance with senior Army officers responsible for recruitment to deceive both aspiring soldiers and civilian candidates.
Investigations have revealed that Bisht even went as far as conducting fake medical examinations at a hospital in Ahmednagar district to further his deceptive scheme.
Ahmednagar police, led by Superintendent Rakesh Ola, are currently probing whether Bisht had any actual connections within the armed forces or was simply exploiting his knowledge to dupe unsuspecting youths.
This incident serves as a stark reminder for job seekers to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any recruitment offers, particularly those involving monetary transactions. It also underscores the vigilance of the Military Intelligence and law enforcement agencies in combating fraudulent activities that exploit the dreams of aspiring soldiers.
