In a move to increase automation and safeguard soldiers, the Indian Army is developing a powerful remotely controlled tracked vehicle (RCTV) designed to carry heavy loads across the battlefield, according to sources.
Private Indian companies currently provide RCTVs suitable for surveillance and light weaponry. However, the Army's ambition is a vehicle with a much higher payload capacity, in the range of 4-6 tons. This robust design would open up a wide array of battlefield applications.
The envisioned heavy-duty RCTV aims to transform both combat and logistical operations. It could replace manned trucks in dangerous areas, reducing troop risk, and serve as a mobile platform for heavy weapons like mortars and anti-tank systems.
Additionally, the RCTV's ability to handle specialized equipment would make it invaluable for combat engineering missions such as mine disposal and overcoming obstacles.
The Indian Army is collaborating with domestic private companies in this development initiative. This partnership leverages expertise within India, potentially resulting in a faster development process and boosting the country's self-sufficiency in defense technology.
