Hyderabad-based Azad Engineering Limited, backed by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, has secured a major contract from the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a leading research organization under India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This significant agreement positions Azad as the sole industry partner responsible for the complete manufacturing and assembly of a cutting-edge gas turbine engine destined for critical defense applications.
The advanced engine, designed with a single-spool turbojet configuration, incorporates a complex array of components, including a four-stage axial flow compressor, an annular combustor, and a single-stage axial flow uncooled turbine. This sophisticated propulsion system is engineered for versatility, adaptable to a wide range of defense platforms.
Azad Engineering, renowned for its expertise in precision engineering and manufacturing, is set to commence deliveries of the fully integrated turbo engines by early 2026. This contract marks a pivotal expansion of Azad's manufacturing capabilities, venturing into end-to-end production of fully assembled advanced engines.
