Boeing Delays Apache AH-64E Deliveries to India Amid Power Generator Failure Concerns

The Indian Army's acquisition of the highly anticipated Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters faces an unexpected delay due to safety concerns arising from recent US Army crashes involving the platform.

Investigations have pinpointed potential issues with the AH-64E's electrical power generator, which could result in hazardous smoke accumulation in the cockpit, endangering pilots.

In response, Boeing has temporarily halted all new AH-64E Apache deliveries until these concerns are thoroughly addressed and validated through rigorous testing.

This delay directly impacts the Indian Army's order for six AH-64E Apaches, originally slated for delivery earlier this year. The new delivery timeline is uncertain, with estimates suggesting a possible delay until late 2024.

While this setback is undoubtedly frustrating for the Indian Army, which eagerly awaits these advanced attack helicopters, safety remains paramount. The AH-64E Apache is a formidable weapon system that will significantly bolster India's offensive capabilities, and ensuring its safe operation is crucial.

The Indian government and military are expected to closely monitor the situation, working in tandem with Boeing to expedite the resolution of these concerns and facilitate the earliest possible delivery of these critical helicopters.

Fair enough. If there is an issue with the helicopter (and knowing Boeing's actions over the last two decades or so, it wouldn't be too surprising if something was brushed under the carpet), then that needs to be fixed. Better to receive helicopters a few months later than to start losing expensive assets such as these.

First it is delayed second it has Issues even well established Aero-Giant Foreign companies too have same Reputation for while i thought it is HAL ............... oh its Boeing who First delayed in delivering 6 choppers & now this issue. They need to Focus more on quality control Rather than Chai-Samosa

Boeing is really performing terribly right now. So many scandals. They need a completely overhaul. Change in upper management, and culture.

US based companies are making excuses to delay defence related product delivery as a US government policy to punish the countries siding with Russia currently.

Boeing is not catching any break anytime soon from plane issues to spacecraft ones and to now even military kit 😂

Yes, I am sure Boeing and the US government crashed a few Apaches just to delay deliveries to India. Any other conspiracy theories you have?

Boeing seems to have caught the habit from HAL. Let's see who fixes that first.

Order Rudras only -- at least they're designed for our real conditions, where Apache never was.

When we know we can't trust Americans and we might know so many things could be involved, then why we r blindly trusting American weapons , we have to be very careful while purchasing especially from America, thy r not trust worthy country at all

Quite an amusing statement.

A company's reputation is at stake. Did this thought occur to you? Besides reputation probably loosing billions in deals?

What's the reason for F404 Engine delay for MK1A.
India waiting for over 1 year. Defence Minister has to personally visit US to request.

American will screw India everyday it can. Stop buying everything American make our own like China

Combo of:
  • GE going into losses company wide, and monkeying up its supply chains
  • US wanting to sell some products such as F-21 and F-15-EX (watch, they'll try pitching these on "easy maintenance, both share common engines", which actually was true with earlietr block F-15 and F-16), the old "create a problem, and then pitch `solution` for it).

This is what happens when a monopoly is developed the company starts to ignore quality and research

Boeing's issues have less to do with monopoly and more to do with mismanaged corporate culture. When the purchased McDonnell-Douglas, they brought in the very bad habit of excessive financial weightage on things.

To paraphrase the grandson of Donald Douglas (the guy who opened Douglas Aircraft Corporation and developed legends like the DC-3), McDonnell-Douglas, after its formation through the merger, essentially threw out engineers and technocrats from the top posts. Negotiations and meetings would be attended only by accountants and lawyers, and the products of the firm suffered as a result.

Boeing simply took that habit, and dialed it up to 11.
