The Border Security Force (BSF) is set to enhance its operational capabilities with the procurement of 40 Vidhwansak Anti-Material Rifles (AMR) from Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli, a unit of Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL).
The Vidhwansak, an indigenously designed and manufactured AMR, is a powerful weapon intended for use against fortified enemy positions, vehicles, and other hard targets. The rifle boasts the ability to penetrate substantial armor and is effective at long ranges.
The decision to procure these rifles underscores the BSF's commitment to modernizing its arsenal in order to effectively address border security challenges. AMRs are particularly useful in countering threats such as sniper attacks and infiltration attempts.
The Vidhwansak's procurement also highlights India's growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing under the 'Make in India' initiative.
