In an ongoing effort to dismantle terror and narco-terror networks operating in the Kashmir Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) have launched a significant crackdown in Handwara. Authorities have attached properties belonging to 51 terror handlers and four drug peddlers, valued at over ₹7.5 million (approximately $91,000 USD).
Targeting Terrorist Handlers
The JKP has identified and begun the process of attaching properties of 51 individuals operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) who have been declared as proclaimed offenders by the court for their involvement in various terrorist activities. Land assets totaling approximately 3.5 kanals, belonging to four of these handlers in the Handwara area, have already been seized. This operation aims to disrupt the financial infrastructure supporting terrorism in the region. The District Magistrate of Handwara has been directed to mark these properties with "red entries" in revenue records, preventing their sale or transfer and limiting their potential use in funding terror activities.
Combating Drug Trafficking
In a parallel operation, the JKP is targeting the financial resources of drug peddlers in Handwara. Properties worth ₹73,52,831, amassed through illicit drug trade activities, have been attached so far. These properties were identified through investigations into ten cases against four known drug traffickers. To further deter drug-related activities, eight individuals with a history of involvement in drug trafficking have been placed under preventive detention under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
These recent actions are part of a broader, ongoing campaign by the JKP to dismantle terror networks and combat drug trafficking in the region. This comprehensive approach aims to not only apprehend those directly involved in terrorism and drug trafficking but also to disrupt the financial networks that sustain these illegal activities.
