EEL Secures Major Contract to Supply 30,000 Advanced Multi-Mode Grenades to CRPF

Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), a subsidiary of Solar Industries India Limited (SII), has won a major contract to supply India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) with 30,000 advanced Multi-Mode Hand Grenades (MMHG).

EEL secured the contract, valued at ₹13.983 crore, with a winning bid of ₹4,661 per grenade, outperforming competitor Munitions India Limited (MIL).

Versatile and Effective Weapon

Developed by the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), the MMHG is a highly versatile weapon optimized for both offensive and defensive combat scenarios.

Its unique design allows soldiers to easily convert between modes. They can add or remove a fragmenting sleeve to change the grenade's function before throwing.

The MMHG's modular construction, consisting of a fuse and a main body, allows for quick and safe priming. Crucially, it also enables easy un-priming without sacrificing the weapon's effectiveness.

Continued Success for EEL

This substantial contract reinforces EEL's growing reputation as a leading provider of cutting-edge military equipment within India. It follows a previous contract awarded by the Ministry of Defence in October 2020.

Under that agreement, EEL will supply 1 million modern hand grenades to the Indian Army and Air Force. Deliveries are scheduled over two years beginning in March 2021, when bulk production clearance was granted.

Great, EEL beat DPSU MIL. This is the type of competition that will take our defence industry to new heights. I think splitting contracts between L1 and L2 in 60/40 or 70/30 split should be looked at for certain contracts. This would maintain health of multiple companies.

Just see the price difference between a govt. & a private manufacturer.. I think the DPSU is also adding the cost of Samosa+tea+2 lunches+snacks in-between+food parcel for home, etc..
Keep up the good jobs SII 🤘👍

CRPF using grenades ? This is new to me.

Anyway prvt sector in defense manufacturing is always good news for India

30000 grenades for Rs 13983 cr means Rs 46 lakh per grenade ? something is wrong - numbers cannot be right

Mainly used against Naxals, Maoists, terrorists in Kashmir and north east regions where they face heavy combat.

This grenade has already been in production for a while now. They need to start placing a higher order number so they can reduce the cost per grenade. Grenades should be widely distributed to each soldier and it should be part of their kit to increase their fire power and to use it when they are outnumbered by the enemy troops rather than only a few soldiers holding grenade.

If CRPF is using grenades, then they should be supplied with Made in India guns, night vision goggles, small grenade launchers, bullet prof jackets and mine protected vehicles.

From the pictures and videos seen in media CRPF always seems to be ill-equipped. Most footage if you observe they do not have helmets as well

The thing is that the dpsu people will still get salary along with allowances including samosa+☕ so better utilise the plants in all dpsu's which are idle and gradually stop recruitment in such dspu and leas or selling such assets to private companies should be considered.
