Brazilian aerospace giant, Embraer, is actively seeking to expand its supply chain footprint in India, recognizing the country's robust aviation and defense industry.
Embraer's Executive Vice-President of Global Procurement and Supply Chain, Roberto Chaves, highlighted the potential for Indian manufacturers to become key suppliers across Embraer's diverse portfolio, encompassing defense, commercial aviation, and executive jets.
A high-level Embraer delegation recently concluded a visit to India, evaluating potential suppliers for aerostructures, machining, sheet metal, composites, forgings, wire harness, and software development, among other areas. This initiative aligns with the burgeoning relations between Brazil and India.
India represents a strategic market for Embraer across all its business segments, with over 44 aircraft currently operating in the country, including commercial, executive, and defense platforms. Notably, the Indian Government and Indian Air Force operate a fleet of Embraer VIP jets and EMB 145 AEW “Netra” military aircraft, respectively.
A key future opportunity for Embraer in India is the Indian Air Force's Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program. Embraer, in partnership with Mahindra, is positioned to offer the C-390 Millennium transport aircraft. The two companies announced their partnership in February 2024.
Embraer views India as a key partner in the region and, together with Mahindra, plans to implement an extensive local supply chain program. This could potentially include an assembly line for the C-390 in India if selected for the MTA program.
Embraer and Mahindra aim to fulfill the expectations of the Indian Government's "Make in India" initiative through this local partnership and a long-term support program.
