France has extended an invitation to India for a collaborative effort in developing the next generation of the Armement Air-Sol Modulaire (AASM) Hammer, a highly advanced air-to-surface stand-off weapon. This proposal emerged during recent high-level discussions between the two nations, underscoring the growing strength of their defence partnership.

The AASM Hammer, already deployed on India's Rafale fighter jets and slated for integration with the indigenous LCA-Tejas Mk1A, is a versatile weapon system designed for both close air support and deep strike missions. Developed by Safran Electronics & Defense, it features all-weather capability, smart guidance, and a high degree of modularity, making it a crucial asset for modern air forces.

This joint development initiative aims to significantly enhance the AASM Hammer's range by incorporating an Augmented Range Extension Kit (REK) with both active and inactive modes, coupled with a Combined Mode Guidance Kit. This upgrade will enable the weapon to strike targets at distances exceeding 100 kilometers, providing a significant boost to India's strategic strike capabilities.

The extended range will allow Indian fighter jets to engage adversaries from safer distances, minimizing their exposure to enemy air defenses. This is particularly crucial in contested airspace and enhances the survivability of both the aircraft and pilots.

The AASM Hammer has already proven its effectiveness in various theaters of operation. Its precision strike capability and extended range will provide the Indian Air Force with a decisive advantage in a wide range of operational scenarios. This initiative underscores the commitment of both nations to maintaining a technological edge and ensuring regional stability.

DRDO's TARA and JSR dynamic's REK are the same type... May be in next 1-2 years India will have this technology in full range... So France is afraid..

Only reason french are offering anything is coz European economy is slowing down and there is always a risk of US prying on the deals like AUKUS. earlier there was no risk of US in defence deals now France don't want to loose it's traditional customers

France has always offered these to India bro.

DRDO is capable of creating kit to convert ordinary weapons into standoff weapons. It will be cost effective and large amount of ammunition can be converted into smart bombs. Hammer each pc will cost dearly. Instead we can create large pool of weapons into stand off weapons. Also along with it we can do joint ventures no problem. Also join hand with Russia and transfer kit technology for dumb bombs.

I don't know about hammer equivalent with us. Bramhos NG should help but each aircraft can carry only one it seems. But we have most of the needed technologies but it may take some time but will be much cheaper than imports
