Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), a leading Indian shipyard and defense public sector undertaking (PSU), has emerged as the frontrunner to build a new research vessel for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The company has confirmed in an exchange filing that it has been selected as the lowest bidder (L1) for the project, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 500 crore.
While the contract is still under negotiation and has not yet been formally awarded, GRSE's position as the lowest bidder makes it the most likely candidate to secure the deal. The company's submission aligns with its expertise in constructing specialized vessels, further solidifying its reputation in the shipbuilding industry.
This potential contract win represents a significant achievement for GRSE, highlighting its competitiveness and ability to deliver cost-effective solutions for critical defense projects. The research vessel, once constructed, will likely play a crucial role in advancing India's defense research and development capabilities.
