Bengaluru, India – Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) have successfully finalized a revision to the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) contract. The updated contract value has increased from Rs 2,700.87 crore to Rs 5,077.95 crore.
The original IOC contract, signed in 2006, has been fully completed. HAL successfully delivered 20 LCA Tejas aircraft to the IAF under this original agreement.
The amendment, initiated by HAL in 2018, is designed to address the evolving nature of the LCA program by providing fair compensation for changes in build standards.
Key Changes Under the Amendment
- Line Replaceable Units (LRUs): The amendment accounts for the procurement of additional LRUs, allowing for easier maintenance and repair.
- Raw materials and Composite materials: These will further enhance the quality and durability of the aircraft.
- Bought-out items, Consumables, and Tooling: These essential components and their associated costs ensure efficiency and quality in the production process.
Significance of the Revised Contract
This amendment reflects the ongoing development and refinement of military equipment necessary to maintain operational readiness.It also underscores the commitment of HAL and the IAF to the LCA Tejas program, a domestically produced multirole fighter designed to bolster India's air defense capabilities.
