I seriously doubt the availability rates of Chinese aircraft. Going by the issues highlighted by other air forces operating Chinese aircraft, be it Thailand/Bangladesh, I seriously doubt the availability rates given in the article.

Anyways, what would have been more interesting is if the Chinese could have sold some J-20s to Pakistan.

So the question is why? There were reports that the backbone of PLAAF is Su30, just like India. J20 is just for show. They would neither field it nor sell it to anyone else. They already claimed working on 6G, which means J20 should be exported, right? Our cutting edge used to be Brahmos, but when we developed hypersonic, we started exporting Brahmos to other countries. By that logic, since PLAAF is on the verge of mastering 6G, according to them, shouldn't J20 be put on sale? They put J20 mockups in Tibet and it got exposed by Indian defense analysts. It's all for show. That thing will never be used in actual battle.
 
It’s good for India as now it makes the majority of their air force with jets that have serious problems. On most the technology is defective and isn’t reliable, regular manufacturing defects, severe engine issues, regular maintenance requirements etc and their jets are unable to achieve what they claim it can do. A lot of their jets are regularly grounded waiting for overpriced repairs and parts charged by China who are milking them dry. I also doubt that they will sell Pakistan any stealth jet as China will fear that the USA will pay Pakistan to get a close look at the Chinese stealth jets technology and capabilities which Pakistan will gladly do for money.
 
Don't underestimate the enemy. You don't know when they can boomerang.

We haven't faced those (except J17) in real-life combat. With the ageing fleet of the IAF, it's hard to counterbalance such an enemy fleet.

We don't even have a Gen 5 fleet.
 
Chinese fighter jets are not war-proven, whereas Sukhoi 30 and Rafale have won wars for many countries. Ammunition is the most important part, along with the latest radar technology. Astra-3 (350km range) and BrahMos are about to be ready; enemies will give a second thought. A push is coming for the speedy commission of MK2 and AMCA. So, India needs to stick to the timelines to deliver these indigenous products to stay ahead.

There are at most 250 J-20s in active service versus over 700 Flankers of various types and over 600 J-10 family planes. Of course, the J-20 isn't the backbone of the PLAAF. There are too few of them. That said, there are only 48 Su-30s remaining in PLAAF service, so I have no idea what kind of idiot could believe they could possibly be the backbone of the PLAAF, unless they mean the J-16 copies.

The J-20 isn't for export for the same reason the F-22 isn't. The plane represents the cutting edge for the PLAAF. The J-35A is exportable because the original FC-31 prototype that the PLAAF rejected at the design stage (when Shenyang called it the "F-60") was made for export to begin with. In fact, the first offer of the FC-31 made by Shenyang was not to the PLAAF or PLANAF but to the Pakistani Air Force. In many ways, the J-35A is only fulfilling its original purpose (to be exported to Pakistan).

No, they are not. In the future, Chinese jets may catch up to Western technology. You can't just assume that the Western technological lead will continue unabated and Chinese technology will remain obsolete.

Time is not static. Once Great Britain was a global superpower, then Russia/Soviets became a global entity, then Germany and Japan became global power. Now USA is a global power with China almost there lagging a fraction; time will change soon with USA skidding on the down slope and we should be ready to face some very serious challenges right in our own neighborhood. No Brits, no Frenchies, no Ruskis and surely no Amrikis will come stand with us when the time comes; and for sure it is going to come.
