Visakhapatnam, India – March 31, 2024 – Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has taken a significant step towards bolstering its shipbuilding capabilities by signing a major infrastructure upgrade contract with Larsen & Toubro Geostructure (L&T Geostructure).
This move signals HSL's commitment to leading India's maritime industry and positions itself to take on larger, more complex projects.
The multifaceted contract aims to enhance HSL's capacity to handle its current Fleet Support Ship projects and opens the door to future projects, including the construction of advanced Landing Platform Docks (LPDs). The 20-month upgrade project will bring sweeping changes to the shipyard's infrastructure.
A highlight of the upgrade is the addition of a state-of-the-art 300-tonne Goliath crane. This powerful piece of equipment will dramatically increase HSL's lifting capacity, allowing the shipyard to undertake the construction of significantly larger vessels.
Alongside the crane, HSL will also upgrade a slipway to optimize the shipbuilding process. The contract additionally includes the integration of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) services to ensure the seamless operation of the new infrastructure.
This infrastructural investment speaks to HSL's continued ambition to modernize and expand its capabilities. The project underpins the shipyard's dedication to supporting the Indian Navy's growing needs and solidifies its role as a significant player in India's defense and shipbuilding sectors.
