HVF Avadi Rolls Out New Batch of T-90 Mark III Tanks, Boosting India's Armored Might

Avadi, India – In a virtual ceremony on May 13th, 2024, the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) Avadi marked a significant milestone with the rollout of a new batch of T-90 Mark III tanks. This event underscores India's unwavering commitment to modernizing its armored forces and bolstering national defence capabilities.

The ceremony was graced by the virtual presence of Lt. Gen. Vivek Kashyap, Director General of Armoured Corps, and Shri Sanjay Dwivedi, CMD AVNL, along with several other distinguished dignitaries. The occasion celebrated not only the technological advancements represented by the T-90 Mark III but also the dedication and expertise of the workforce at HVF Avadi.

What We Know About the T-90 Mark III

While specific details about the T-90 Mark III upgrades remain under wraps, it is anticipated that this variant incorporates significant enhancements in firepower, protection, and overall operational capabilities compared to its predecessors. These upgrades are likely to include:
  • Advanced Fire Control Systems: Enabling greater accuracy and target acquisition.
  • Enhanced Armor: Providing improved protection against modern anti-tank threats.
  • Upgraded Engine: Boosting mobility and responsiveness on the battlefield.
Open-source information reveals that the T-90 Mark III, also known as the T-90MS, is an export variant of the Russian T-90M tank. It features a new turret design, a more powerful engine, and an advanced fire control system. This suggests that the Indian T-90 Mark III tanks are likely to share similar upgrades, making them a formidable asset in India's armored arsenal.

Significance for India's Defence

The rollout of the T-90 Mark III tanks represents a critical step in India's ongoing efforts to enhance its military capabilities and maintain a technological edge in the face of evolving security challenges. The upgraded tanks are expected to play a pivotal role in safeguarding India's borders and national interests.

This development also highlights India's growing prowess in defence manufacturing. The indigenous production of these advanced tanks not only reduces dependence on foreign suppliers but also contributes to the growth of the domestic defence industry.

The Road Ahead

As India continues to invest in the modernization of its armed forces, the T-90 Mark III tanks are poised to become a cornerstone of its armored capabilities. With their cutting-edge technology and enhanced performance, these tanks will undoubtedly contribute to India's security and preparedness in the years to come.

The rollout ceremony at HVF Avadi is a testament to India's commitment to self-reliance in defence and its unwavering resolve to protect its national interests. The T-90 Mark III tanks symbolize the nation's determination to remain a formidable force in the region and beyond.

Nice, the babus ended up screwdriving a new FCS computer panel, and welded RCWS....It reminds me of the computer technician I use to visit 20 yrs ago to upgrade RAM in my Windows 98 desktop.....great achivement!

After incorporating arjun tech into T90, IA proudly presents tincan mark3, but won't order Arjuns.

Atleast hope there's a new Drone Jammer.

whatever happened to the very old more than 5 years old order for 1000nos. of T90MS tanks I wonder?? How come nobody talks about this anymore??

Need air defence vehicle developed on TATA WHAP or similar platform which can provide aerial cover to tanks and artillery guns.

Why don't you suggest what they should do?
foreign intels are operating in this forum. their agenda is to turn the public against the state. they will never provide any constructive criticism. their line of thought will always be "screwdriver, slow, too much time,DPSU sucks blablabla". ask them to give a plan on what should be the right course of action, they will downhill ski faster than Pak commanders in Kargil

Anyways these days tanks and artillery are just cannon fodder for armed drones... So, need 1000's modern tanks with cope cages...

If memory serves, the 2019 order (which I believe you are referring to?) was for less than 500 tanks? I have a feeling that this batch may be a part of that order?

imported army is happy to work with looser and outdated T90. But never want to order the home made Arjun even the Arjun defeated the T90.

It's good that we are replacing our T72 tanks as much as possible but we need to focus more on developing our own indigenous tanks. Germany has delayed supplying the engines needed for the second batch of the Arjun tanks because of strict export controls although they now say they have removed us from that list. India needs to develop the engines ourselves for the FMBT that needs to be developed as quickly as possible.

Becasue they will strike and sit on the road claiming their jobs are at risk, create rucus, disturb civilian life.....they have to be dealt like TaTa recently dealt with the absconding pilots...fired 20 of them in a single day and rest all them are back to work....IF the baus dont like the work, they are happy to leave...but they wont as nobody else will pay them bloated salries for chai biscuits

Simple....ask these babus how much of this so called upgraded tank in value% is manufactured in India vs direct imports of sub-components...........then ask them that you started assembling this in 2006....what have you achieved in past 18 years in term of domestic manufacturing.....lastly most importantly....we all know that army prefers T-90 over Arjun.....ask these babus what learnings they have incorporated from T-90 into Arjun...

Now compare this with the learnings incorprated by L&T from Vajra in Zorawar in a span of 4 years....

And after you get the answer, take a hike back to where you came from

Just as I thought. My assumption of Avadi using batch manufacturing practices is confirmed. Do u see that ladder near that tank, u wont find such atrocity in moving assembly line operations ever.

Arjun is too heavy and based on early leopard 2 design and still heavy so they need to use know how from t-90 and Arjun to build a future tank

Arjun may have defeated T90 but it's at a facility there's a lot of things in war Arjun is too heavy and it has less penetration than T90 so unless they may new apfsds round for Arjun which matches western ammunition it's not logical to buy anymore Arjun tanks and as we have seen in modern war tanks are becoming obsolete so every country is making lighter tanks and India needed tank mainly for indo china border but these wheather it T90 or arjun are not so much successful in high terrain coz of their weight thus it's pointless to have more Arjun tanks
