Hyderabad Firm Develops "SnowTent" with 3-in-1 Heating System to Keep Indian Troops Warm in Sub-Zero High-Altitude Conditions

In a significant boost to India's self-reliance in defence technology, Hyderabad-based Enertech Engineering Private Limited has developed "SnowTent," an innovative shelter designed to protect Indian troops stationed in the extreme cold of high-altitude regions. This development comes as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which emphasizes indigenous production and innovation.

SnowTent is equipped with a unique 3-in-1 kerosene heating system, ensuring a continuous and reliable source of warmth even in sub-zero temperatures. Furthermore, it incorporates a solar-powered electricity system, providing sustainable energy for lighting and other essential needs. This eco-friendly feature aligns with growing concerns about environmental responsibility in defence operations.

"SnowTent was entirely developed in Hyderabad," stated Avish Chandha, Director of Enertech Engineering, highlighting the company's commitment to homegrown innovation. Designed with portability in mind, the tent can be efficiently packed into three bags, facilitating easy transportation by helicopter to remote and challenging terrains.

Safety is paramount, and SnowTent addresses this with its 100% fire-retarded fabric, minimizing risks associated with heating within the tent. The integrated solar power system contributes not only to the tent's functionality but also to its overall sustainability.

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has already procured a significant number of SnowTents, deploying them to provide improved living conditions for their personnel working on road construction projects in border areas. This adoption by the BRO underscores the tent's practical value and its potential to enhance the efficiency and well-being of troops operating in harsh environments.

SnowTent stands as a testament to Indian engineering and innovation, showcasing the country's growing capabilities in developing critical defence technologies. PSUs and Bureaucracy does not work that way, if it was the private sector, then they would have been commercialized long time ago, that is why the West is successful because of government spending on any R&D is always done with the participation of the private industry.

I think India needs to improve the lot and facility for its soldiers using mobile/container home concepts, companies like Boxable etc have unique concepts. India should promote this kind of Pre built homes for masses and for armed forces then just tent. This fully functional tents should be deployed in route of harsh weather in Ladakh Himachal and other places.
